The ACM Awards By: Gabrielle Bettis On Sunday night Reba McEntire hosted the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The ACM’s took place at the MGM GRAND in Las Vegas. The place was filled with country artists from Trace Adkins to Brooks and Dunn. Carrie Underwood won the entertainer of the year, the top male vocalist of the year was the handsome Brad Paisley, and the top female vocalist of the year was Miranda Lambert. The band that walked away with the most awards of the night was Lady Antebellum. They went home with the top vocal group of the year, single record of the year for “Need you Now”, and the song of the year. Some artists weren’t as lucky, Taylor Swift who was nominated for several awards went home empty handed. Several artists performed their top songs with Lady Antebellum performing American Honey, Carrie Underwood with Temporary Home, and Rascal Flatts played one of their new hits “Here Comes Goodbye.” During their performance the head singer of the Rascal Flatts fumbled over his lyrics but fixed the mistake and ended with an outstanding performance. Kenny Chesney gave an amazing performance and won over everyone in the audience. Chesney is not touring right now and this was only his second performance of the year. He has been working on his movie Summer in 3D which will be playing in theatres shortly. The performance that caused the most controversy was Laura Bell Bundy singing “Giddy on up”. Many people thought this song was bringing country music backwards. With the square dancing steps and twang lyrics Bundy pushed it too far for country lovers. Overall the ACM awards were remarkable and set the bar high for next years 46th awards ceremony.
