                    Annual Performance Report for 2009-10

         State of Texas Assessments of
         Academic Readiness (STAAR)
Replaces the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and
 Skills (TAKS)
Will assess the content standards at a greater
 depth and at a higher level of complexity than
 TAKS
Ultimate goal is to graduate students who are
 college and career ready.
The first year of STAAR will be the 2011-12 school
 year.

                        Annual Performance Report for 2009-10

             New Accountability System
                  under STAAR
 The last year under the old Accountability System will be
  2011. Ratings suspended 2012.
 The first year of the new rating system will be 2013.
 The defining characteristic of the new accountability system
  will be the emphasis on college and career readiness
  performance on the STAAR.
 The Recognized and Exemplary labels will emphasize higher
  levels of student performance rather than higher
  percentages of students performing at the proficient level.
