					Diagonal Baby Blanket with Eyelet
Adapted from a pattern by Jeanine LeRoche for Leisure Arts

This is a diagonal blanket with a balanced eyelet motif (3-5-3) inserted along the way.

If you have ever done a diagonal dishcloth, it is basically the same, just a lot larger! You
can work the Inc side of blanket until you get it as large as you want, or are about half way
through your yarn, then begin the Dec side of the blanket. Increases and Decreases are all
worked on the RS. WS rows are all K across unless it is an eyelet row. All eyelet rows are
worked on the WS. I added the eyelet rows for interest and to tie into the sweater and
bonnet I had already made. To see how I mapped this out, please continue to read.

Terms: Inc – K front and back of same st
           Eyelet row WS: K4, (YO, K2tog), repeat ( ) to last 3 sts, K3
Inc side pattern: Row 1 (RS): K2, YO, K to last 2 sts, YO, K2
                             Row 2 (WS): Knit across
           Dec side pattern: Row 1 (RS): K1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, K to last 5 sts, K2tog, YO,
                             K2tog, K1
                             Row 2 (WS): Knit across
Garter St (GS): Knit every row
Ridge: One ridge = 2 rows of Garter st.

This is how I did my blanket.

On the Increase Side:

First segment: Establish the Inc side corner as follows:

Cast on 2 sts.
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: (RS) Inc, K1 = 3 sts
Row 3: Knit
Row 4: Inc twice, K1 = 5 sts
Row 5: Knit
Row 6: K2, YO, K1, YO, K2 = 7 sts
Row 7: Knit
Row 8: K2, YO, K to last 2 sts, YO, K2
Row 9: Knit = 9 sts - You’ll see this number again near the end of the project!

While working Inc side pattern (see above Terms)

Second segment: (work 10 ridges in Garter St, on WS insert eyelet row), repeat ( ) twice

Continue working Inc side pattern

Third segment: work 30 ridges of Garter St.
Fourth segment: (insert Eyelet row, work 10 ridges of Garter st) repeat ( ) once, then insert
Eyelet row. This is the center and widest part of the blanket.

** You should now have completed the following:

1. Established the Inc side corner,
2. 10 ridges of GS, eyelet row, 10 ridges GS, eyelet row, 10 ridges GS, eyelet row,
3. 30 ridges of GS,
4. Eyelet row, 10 ridges GS, eyelet row, 10 ridges GS, eyelet row. **

You are half way there! Time to back track all those ridges of garter st and inserted rows of
eyelet!

On the Decrease Side:

First segment: Begin Dec side pattern (RS): K1, K2 tog, YO, K2 tog, K to last 5 sts, K2tog,
YO, K2tog, K1

(WS): Knit across

Continue working Dec side pattern (see above Terms)

Second segment: (Work Dec side pattern for 10 ridges of Garter St., insert Eyelet row),
repeat ( ) once.

Third segment: Work Dec side pattern for 30 ridges of Garter St.

Fourth segment: Insert Eyelet row, (work 10 ridges of garter st., insert Eyelet row), repeat
once. Then do work another 10 ridges in Dec side pattern.

**You should now have 9 sts left on your needles.**

Finish the Dec side corner as follows:

K1, K2tog, YO, slip 1, K2tog, PSSO, YO, K2tog, K1 = 7 sts.
K3, K2tog, K2 = 6 sts
K1, K2tog, YO, K2 tog, K1 = 5 sts
Knit across
K1, slip 1, K2tog, PSSO, K1 = 3 sts
Slip 1, K2tog, PSSO = one st.
Cut yarn and draw through last st.

There you have it! Hope this makes sense. Good luck. PM me if you see I ran amuck with
these directions. Thanks ~ lp
