                                              MEET OUR JUDGES!
Sandy Brown (Conformation) has been involved in Jack Russells since 1991, and a
member of the JRTCA since 1992. She has worked her terriers extensively to a variety of
quarry and has owned and bred several bronze medallion terriers. She completed the
Apprentice program to become a Conformation Judge as she enjoys educating people on the
breed and wants to help preserve their working heritage.

Mike Bilbo (Go-to-Ground) Mike comes from the State of Colorado where he lives with
his wife Darlene and a house full of terriers. Rancho Fiasco has 10 Jack Russells, 3
Patterdale terriers and 3 Lurchers. If that wasn't enough to manage there are also horses to
round out the crew. Mike has been judging Go To Ground for nearly 14 years and has been
a Working Judge for 8 years. When he is not out working his terriers you can usually find
him running his hounds when the weather is cool enough or helping Darlene with her horses
in 3-Day Eventing. He has judged trials all over the country including the JRTCA National
Trial in 1999. He enjoys the opportunity to get out to judge trials as it allows him to meet a
lot of new people from all parts of the country and share with them the working aspects of
this terrier.

Liz Valles (Conformation & Go-to-Ground) has been involved with Jack Russells for
over 20 years. She has been a JRTCA member since 1989 and was actively involved with the
South Coast Jack Russell Club for 10 years before moving to Washington State to go to Vet
school. While there, she co-founded the TriState Jack Russell Club with Molly Rombach.
She and her husband Paul moved to Pennsylvania in 2007 where they live with their 12 Jack
Russells and one German Shorthaired Pointer. She in involved with all areas of the Jack
Russell world and enjoys hunting, racing and doing agility with her dogs. She has served on
the Breeders committee, Trial Committee and the Jack Russell Research Foundation. She has
been a GTG judge for 19 years and a conformation judge for 13 years and has judged both
events at the Jack Russell Nationals. She is a State Rep and is currently serving her
second term on the JRTCA Board of Directors. She thoroughly enjoys her involvement with
the club and is ever thankful for the wonderful friends she has through the club. She is
honored to judge at the Arctic Blast Trial each year and looks forward to seeing everyone!

Dan Schmitt (Racing) has been involved with Jack Russells for over 20 years, along with wife Marlene and seven-
year old son Sam. Their Houlton, WI residence is home of Anglo Terra Jack Russell Terriers, a German Wirehaired
Pointer, a Lurcher, three horses and two rats. Dan has been judging racing for close to 13
years and more recently the Barn Hunt. In his limited spare time, Dan enjoys hunting with
the terriers and bird hunting with his Pointer, Storm.
Pictured with Dan, is long-time friend Rob Buckles, husband of Brenda and father
of Nicole (25) and Tyler (22). Just up the road is their residence, aka, Pine Meadow Farm,
where they operate a horse boarding facility. They also have been involved with Jack
Russells for nearly 20 years, thanks to Marlene. Rob also enjoys hunting and fishing when
he gets the chance. At any of our Arctic Blast trials or fun days you will see Rob helping
                             out wherever needed.

Marlene and Brenda would like to thank Dan and Rob for their support and the hours of work involved in putting on
the trials and fun days. While they may (often)gripe and complain, we know they really love being a part of it all!

Open to all Jack Russell Terriers & Colored Terriers
How fast can your terrier find the rat in the “barn”? This above ground hunting simulation tests your dog’s
scenting, tracking ability and prey drive and tests your ability to “read” your dog. A fenced in course consists
of several PVC tubes hidden in bales of hay, etc., but only one contains the rat. Time starts when the judge
tells the handler to release the dog. You can encourage your dog, but you cannot cross the designated line.
You must call “TIME” when you think your terrier has found the rat (judge will not stop the time until you tell
him to). Your dog must mark the correct container to receive a qualifying time. The dog with the fastest time
is the winner. Each dog can compete only once for a time. The maximum time allowed for each team is two
minutes. Champion & Reserve determined from the fastest times of the day from classes 113-115.

Class 113: Puppies – 4 up to 12 months

NEW FOR 2011! JRTCA National Challenge Year-End Awards
All trials held prior to the Nationals (October 28-30, 2011) will be counted in the current year. (Those held
following Nationals will count toward 2012.) This is no way intended as “Championship Titles,” it is purely
intended as recognition for those terriers who actively compete nationally. It is the hope of the JRTCA that that
these awards will add enjoyment to the competition for those who choose to participate by attending as many
sanctioned trials as possible. Awards will be provided by the JRTCA, and given out at the annual National Trial
dinner party, followed by announcement in True Grit and in the on-line Yearbook. Points will be tracked from all
JRTCA sanctioned trials; 8 points will be awarded for each championship, and 6 points for each reserve. Awards
will be given in the following categories:

High Score & Reserve Puppy Racer High Score Adult Racer
