Before the opening it is a calm river, but that changes very fast after the
                                   dam opens up.
Watching it makes you think about the power of a wall of water coming
…. one that just keeps coming.

16:00 TAMAKI MAORI VILLAGE – Overnight Stay
The heart of Tamaki Maori Village’s Tribal Marketplace, and nestled into the fringes of the ancient Tawa Forest, lie two
newly developed and intricately carved Sleeping Houses. Each wharemoe (sleeping house) has been created with
attention to detail, to ensure the Tamaki Maori Village overnight marae stay experience is authentic, while visitor
expectations and demands are sure to be exceeded. Each 150mm mattress is built into a bed-base, there are
individual night lights, heat pumps for warmth in winter, and air conditioning in summer, plus more.

Both wharemoe have been carved by Logan Shipgood, esteemed artist and carver. One house representative of a
‘House of Mythology’ and one house represents a ‘House of Reality’. All of the carvings in each house are symbolic of a
specific god, myth, legend or real event in our history. These houses will become the basis for the evening
‘storytelling’ around the fire pit at the end of the night, where guests will enjoy a bush walk through the 200 year old
native Tawa forest to the fire pit.

In the afternoon of day one, overnight guests will receive a traditional welcome into Tamaki Maori Village, and
become fully immersed in Marae Protocols. Guests will make their beds, and learn a waitata (song) before they enjoy
the award winning Tamaki Maori Village evening hangi and concert experience at the village. The evening ends with a
short bush walk to an open fire pit, where our Maori guides will share tales of myth, legend and relay real stories from
our history.

From the South (Auckland)
When approaching Whangarei, stay on State Highway 1, which bypasses the city centre. As you exit the
short 70 km/hr zone, near the top of a hill, turn right into Kensington Avenue, next to Kensington Stadium
and Sports Grounds. Continue on, and at traffic lights ahead, turn slightly left then immediately right into
Nixon St. Drive on, through a second set of traffic lights, and around a right hand corner. Mair St is the first
street on your left. Look for our sign on the corner.

Welcome to Whangarei TOP 10 Holiday Park, your ideal holiday accommodation choice in scenic, sub-
tropical Whangarei. Gateway to stunning Northland, the birthplace of New Zealand, Whangarei is a great
place to base yourself at, whether exploring the local district and its many attractions, or for day trips
further afield.

Whangarei is quite literally the city of 100 beaches – and we know all the ‘secret spots’. Where else could
you have white sand and turquoise water to yourself all day? If that sounds too relaxing, you could visit
famous Whangarei Falls, take a tour out to see the largest sea cave in the world, dive or snorkel at the
world-renowned Poor Knights Islands (best sub-tropical diving in the world), browse art galleries and
museums, visit the large cats at Zion Wildlife Gardens, try some of the superb bush or coastal walks and
hikes, or tour an award-winning local winery.

Our small, picturesque Holiday Park, situated down a quiet side street, is bordered by Parihaka Scenic
Reserve, and with native bush-clad hills as our backdrop and a lovely river running just behind our Park, the
peace and tranquillity will have you feeling like you are miles from anywhere. You’ll be amazed that the
heart of Whangarei city, as well as Quayside Whangarei Town Basin and Marina where great restaurants
and cafes overlook the picturesque yacht harbour, is just 2 kms or 5 minutes drive away
