   Purpose: The Disability Student Assembly is an annual event hosted by the Union of
   Students with Disabilities to welcome incoming new students as well as welcome
   back others.

   Benefits to student Body: We use the event as a method of reaching the masses of
   UF students about disability issues, particularly through the use of a keynote speaker
   who is disabled or expounds on a social message concerning disabilities.

Purpose: To recruit new members to join USD and help to work to affect change for the

community amongst students with disabilities.

Purpose: Bring disability arts and culture to UF as a means of promoting awareness of
disability issues to the masses at UF as well as to explore the construction of disability in
the media. The event will feature films by various film makers concerning disability
issues as well as an artist as our keynote speaker.

Benefits: USD will educate UF students about the conception of disability through the
use of art and film as a means of breaking down negative and stifling stero-types that are
pervasive in our society.

Purpose/Benefit to masses: USD executive board members will attend the World
Summit on Disability to become educated on world issues related to disability. USD
members will bring back information to share with the student body at large, as well
network with other disability leaders.
   II.     Spring 2005
           1. Wheelchair Basketball April, 2004

Purpose: USD has invited the Dallas Mavericks, the top-rated wheelchair basketball
team in the nation, to play against a group of able-bodied UF students as a means of
promoting disability awareness to the masses at UF.

Affect for student Body: USD will use the wheelchair basketball game as a method of
promoting the awareness of students with disabilities on the campus. The game will also
be used as a method of promoting sports for students with disabilities at UF.

Students affected: 800

Purpose: The goal of the Disability Issues Forum is to provide an opportunity for service
providers, academics and college students with disabilities to debate the issues facing the
disability community today as they consider the role disability will play in the future of
higher education and in American society as a whole.
