Tri-Community Adult Education is a cooperative educational program serving the Unified
School Districts of Charter Oak, Covina-Valley, and West Covina.

Tri-Community Adult Education is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and
Colleges and is authorized to issue high school diplomas.
                                                 VETERANS
Tri-Community Adult Education is approved by the State Department of Education to offer
classes which enable Veterans to complete a High School Diploma Program. Please call

Adults who do not have a high school diploma are urged to meet with a counselor in order

                                        REGISTRATION
During the first two weeks of the term, beginning Monday, January 5, 2009,
registration is completed in class at the location where the class is offered.

“first come, first served” basis. Late registrations are accepted if space is

                                           ADMISSION
Adults 18 years of age or older, not attending day school, or high school graduates
of any age may attend. Students attending a day high school may be admitted
under certain conditions by special request of the day school of attendance.
Students who wish to take courses for high school credit must see a counselor.

                                                   FEES
NON-REFUNDABLE, NON-TRANSFERABLE fees for all classes will be
charged as noted. Classes with an asterisk (*) pay a registration fee of $10.00
($2.00 for students 60+ years). All fees are payable at time of registration.
Students pay for all supplies, materials, and textbooks. Payment in cash is
preferred. A service fee of $15.00 will be charged for returned checks, copies
of certificates of completion, and letters of verification.

ALL FEES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE AND ARE
NON-TRANSFERABLE AND NON-REFUNDABLE.

                 Registration Information
                               TEXTBOOKS
Textbooks are available for purchase by students registered in Tri-Community
Adult Education classes. TEXTBOOK FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
                   REGISTRATION and ATTENDANCE
A minimum number of students must be in attendance for a class to be registered.
Adult Education classes are financed according to State apportionment for
attendance. Excessive absences may cause classes to be closed or combined,
or individual students to be dropped.
                    CERTIFICATES OF ACHIEVEMENT
Certificates of Achievement are issued to students who satisfactorily complete
study in certain academic, business occupations, and vocational subjects.
                                 INSURANCE
TRI-COMMUNITY ADULT EDUCATION DOES NOT PROVIDE
STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE, nor is it provided for children
participating in Parent Education or Child Care activities.
                          MINOR CHILDREN
Minor children are NOT allowed in adult education classes except in certain
Parent Education and/or Family Literacy classes.
                              SENIOR CITIZENS
Students, age 60 and older, pay a registration fee of $2.00 for classes with an
asterisk (*), and will pay other fees, where applicable.
                           STUDENT RECORDS
The release of students’ educational records shall be according to the Education
Code and state regulations.
                           RIGHT TO PRIVACY
All students are protected by State and Federal laws regarding their right to
privacy.
                     DISCRIMINATION PROHIBITED
No person shall, on the basis of race, color, ancestry, national origin, sex, marital
status, handicap, age, religion, or political beliefs, be excluded from participation
in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in any education
program or activity except as provided for use by law or regulation.
                              AHERA COMPLIANCE
All facilities of the three cooperating districts of Tri-Community Adult Education
have been inspected for asbestos-containing materials and management plans
have been filed with the State of California in compliance with federal ASBESTOS
HAZARD EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACT legislation. The plans are available
to review at the Districts’ Administrative Offices.
              UNIFORM COMPLAINT PROCEDURES
Uniform Complaint Procedures are available in the office at each of our main
centers.

                                  Child Care
                          CHILD CARE for children of Tri-Community students is
                          available at the following Child Care Centers:
     Tri-Community        GRISWOLD CENTER
                          Monday thru Thursday ..... 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
                          Friday ..................................... 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

                          PIONEER CENTER
                          Monday thru Friday ............ 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon

A fee of $1.00 per child will be charged for each class section. Child Care is
a service available only to children of Tri-Community Adult Education students.
Students attending daytime classes at ANY location may take only pre-
school-age children to the Child Care Center at Griswold or Pioneer Adult
Education Centers.
BEFORE A CHILD CAN ATTEND CHILD CARE, PROOF OF THE
FOLLOWING IMMUNIZATIONS IS REQUIRED: DPT or DT, POLIO,
RUBELLA, RUBEOLA, MUMPS, HEPATITIS B, HIB MENINGITIS
and VARICELLA.
Children must be at least 2 years of age. All children must be toilet trained.
Child Care services shall not be available for children of parents on field trips.

                       Counseling Services
All students taking courses for high school credit MUST SEE A TRI-COMMUNITY
COUNSELOR BEFORE ATTENDING CLASSES. Students enrolled in a regular
high school must have a completed Tri-Community High School Student Referral
from their school of residence prior to enrollment. (Credit may not be earned in certain
classes.) High school students may not enroll in fitness classes.
ADULT STUDENTS enrolling for HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT should call Pioneer
Center at (626) 974-6823.

     Counselors are available daily from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, and
        from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Monday through Thursday.

                          COUNSELING ASSISTANCE
Tri-Community Adult Education Counselors are available during school hours to assist
students to reach their optimum educational goals. They offer assistance with career
planning and guidance counseling. A variety of tests allow students to explore their
vocational interest, aptitudes, personality, intelligence, educational progress, and
work values. In addition, counselors offer assistance with matters involving health
and welfare, human relations, and psychological concerns. Contact a counselor at

                           Testing Services
                    READING & MATH TESTING SERVICE
This service is designed to identify individual achievement in reading and math to aid
in the appropriate placement in academic classes. Testing is by appointment only.
Call (626) 974-6823 for an appointment.

           COMPREHENSIVE TEST OF BASIC SKILLS (CTBS)
Students enrolled in the Tri-Community Adult Education high school diploma program
may take these tests for up to 50 elective credits and/or academic credit in Math,
English, Science, and World History toward their high school diploma. Call (626)
974-6823 for an appointment.

      California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)
 Test Dates: February 3 & 4 and March 17 & 18, 2009
                              TOEFL PREPARATION
Instructor-assisted preparation for college bound, limited-English speaking students
who need to pass the TOEFL is offered. A variety of pre-testing and preparation
materials covering the areas of reading, listening, speaking and writing are utilized in
an individualized setting. For more information, call (626) 974-6823.

             VOCATIONAL/CAREER TESTING & COUNSELING
Interest, ability, and career value tests are part of the Tri-Community Adult Education
Counseling Services. Individuals interested in vocational testing, career information,
job outlooks and requirements, current labor supply and demand, lists of vocational
schools, colleges, universities, etc., are encouraged to see a counselor. A fee of $8.00
to $10.00 may be charged. Contact a counselor at Pioneer Center or call (626) 974-
6823 for more information.

                  GED TESTING SERVICE

TRI-COMMUNITY ADULT EDUCATION IS AN
OF FICIA L GED TESTI NG C EN TER
The Tests of General Educational Development (GED) can give
you the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency diploma – a credential
recognized as a key to employment opportunities, job advancement, further
education, and financial rewards. Tri-Community Adult Education administers
the GED test Monday through Wednesday at Pioneer Center.

The GED test is composed of five sections: Language Arts/Reading, Language
Arts/Writing, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics.

Testing on all sections is available on a drop-in basis during the testing hours
listed below – no appointment is necessary. All applicants must provide a
valid picture identification with current address. The test fee is $100.00,
which includes State and National fees. Payment must be cash or
money order.

               Combination Welder Training
*COMBINATION WELDER TRAINING, BASIC & CERTIFIED A vocational
training program based upon practical hands-on welding and classroom theory. The
program is operated on an open-entry, open-exit basis, which allows students
to begin training at any time space is available. The Welding Center is licensed to
administer the practical examinations required by the American Welding Society and
the Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety for Certified Welders. Continuing

                   Commercial Photography
The Tri-Community Photography Program includes more than one hundred courses
offered annually on a rotational basis. Skill levels range from beginner to professional.
Although courses need not be taken in sequential order, it is recommended that students
are well-grounded in the elements and principles of Photo 1 before enrolling in advanced
courses. Basic processing experience is not required to register in any Photo Processing
section. Classes are conducted in the 11,000 sq. ft. Tri-Community Photo Center which is
furnished with state-of-the-art equipment. (Students taking any Photoshop courses must
already be computer literate and are welcome to bring their own laptops. For photo program
purposes, “computer literacy” is defined as having a basic understanding of operating a
computer, which includes turning the computer on and off, using the mouse, working with
pull-down menus, and the opening, closing and saving of files.)

           TRI-COMMUNITY ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM GOALS
  Tri-Community Adult Education provides an educational environment that
  affords the opportunity for students to be successful in achieving the purpose
  for which they came to school with the expectation that they will:

  v Use problem solving, technology and critical thinking skills.
  v Become self-sufficient and productive community members.

 PREREGISTRATION        for EXERCISE & FITNESS classes Student must be present to register.
only will be held at Griswold Center according to the     one class: $20.00* per term
following schedule:                                       next 3 classes: $10.00 each
Monday, December 8 ................... 8:30-11:30 am      Seniors (age 60 and over):
Monday, December 8 ................... 4:30-7:00 pm       one class: $12.00* per term
Wednesday, December 10 .......... 4:30-7:00 pm            next 3 classes: $6.00 each
                                                          (*Includes registration and class fees.)
If space is available, students may register at the first class meeting.   Fees are for term.
