  to foreigners
  Increased Chinese
  nationalism and resentment
  towards foreigners

•Poverty, hunger, and starvation
•Discontent w/ gov’t corruption
•Increasing opium addiction
•Resentment of privileges given

•Destruction of Farmland by armies…

•Economic imperialism rather than spheres
of influence in China

steps toward reform (Dynasty ends
1912)
