Homework Factory Tutoring
The majority of our volunteers participate in Homework Factory on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:45pm to 5:30pm. Our volunteers normally choose
to commit to one day a week for a minimum of 3 months.
This is a time to provide homework assistance and enrichment activities for children K-
12. We particularly need tutors in Math and Science. The number of students may vary.
Older High School Students are encouraged to apply to tutor middle school and
elementary aged students. This position reports to Lead Family Support Specialist.

One on One Tutoring
Be matched with ONE student who is seeking help with academic skills, social
enrichment and homework. Depending on your skills and interests and the student’s
needs you may be paired with an elementary, middle or high school student. This is a
great way to get to know a student within our community! Meet at the Ballinger Homes
Family Support Center on Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 5:15pm to 6:15pm. This
position reports to our School District Family Advocate.

First Steps/Play and Learn Assistants

First Steps/Play and Learn is an early learning opportunity for children ages 0 to 5 and
their caregivers. This position would assist our facilitators in preparing and cleaning up
for activities, snacks and circle times once a week. They will also provide culturally and
age appropriate activities to enhance early learning through hands on activities. This
volunteer position reports to our Early Learning instructor.

Internships
At Ballinger Family Support Center we welcome and encourage students to participate
in internship opportunities. We appreciate the wide range of skills brought by our
interns. We will work with you to create a learning experience that is unique and
beneficial to both you and our participants while emphasizing the core values of CHS
and the Family Support Principles. .
Teach a Class
Everyone has talents and skills to share with others! Volunteers with a special skill may
be able to facilitate a class at the family center. Talk with us about your ideas.

                          Green Lake Elementary School
                               Bev Denny saharmon@seattleschools.org
Quite like a lot of kids are required to attend after-school tutoring. Tutors should have a sense of
humor as well as a sense of purpose. Green Lake Elementary uses the "Everyday Math"
curriculum from the University of Chicago. A lot of information about the curriculum including
grade level materials can be found on-line. Whoever signs up for the job should familiarize
                                 themselves with Everyday Math.
