This Guelph based Regional Hospital is looking for family physicians, who can assist in delivering excellent and compassionate care to our patients in complex care and rehabilitation. The Complex Care Unit is changing from an end destination to a transition point for patients. Over the next five years it is expected that complex care will meet the needs of an increasingly diverse patient population, who no longer require acute care. The Waterloo-Wellington LHIN has already made some preliminary changes at St. Joseph’s. The hospitalist(s) will be responsible for working with the interdisciplinary team in gradually growing the Functional Enhancement Unit (slow stream rehabilitation) to a 10 bed program. The new incumbent will provide medical care for the 8 bed ALC transition program and the long stay complex care patients. If there is an interest in palliative care, the hospitalist(s) may work on the development of the 15 bed palliative care program. There will be a nurse practitioner to assist the hospitalist(s) as well as a dedicated group of family physicians. Please contact us for more details on compensation. The salary is negotiable. The hospital currently pays the same amount as the acute care hospital and is currently reviewing the salary, so it will mostly likely go up. The physician can choose to receive a straight salary or salary with benefits including a pension. The current rate is over $220,000 per annum for FT without benefits, (however this will be increased in 2010). This role allows a lot of flexibility in terms of hours of the day in which the physician must be in the hospital. On call is not onerous and there are few calls.
