                                    PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I’m happy to report that OSUDC won yet another Gold Star Outstanding Alumni Club at the annual
Alumni Club Leaders Conference held in Columbus at the end of September. The Gold Star
designation is only given to up to 10 of the most outstanding clubs nationwide; this year we were
one of eight. We were acknowledged for our work in student recruitment, community service, and
Buckeye camaraderie at fellowship and networking events like our gamewatches that help raise
funds for scholarships and support the student fellows at The John Glenn Institute in Washington.
Also former Club president Bill Halsey and his wife, former board member Janet Halsey, received
the Best Buckeye Award for their past contributions to the Club. Thanks to all of you who help make
Ohio State stronger through your support of our Club activities.
While we gather on a number of occasions throughout the year, I urge you to join us for one of our
two big events--the annual Holiday Party at the beautiful Capitol Hill Club. It’s a very festive evening
and a fun time is virtually guaranteed! Also, our football team is still in the thick of the Big 10 race
so I hope you will come on out to our gamewatches to cheer the team on. By throwing in a few
bucks for the weekly raffle, you support our scholarship fund and give yourself a chance to win
some excellent Buckeye prizes (and who among us can say they really have enough Ohio State
stuff!). This is also the time of year when we collect donations to the Club’s local charity, St. Ann’s
Infant and Maternity Home, which is staffed by one of our OSU alums. Please bring your items to
the game watches and Holiday Party, and we will make sure that they are delivered to the young
families in need of them.
Finally, thanks to those of you who responded to our e-mail survey about technology. As the Club
looks to using new technology to make our communication with you quicker and more efficient,
while saving money on printing and mailing costs, we will be implementing some positive changes
throughout the year. While we will still be sending the Bits in its usual format to OSUDC members,
we will also make the BITS available electronically as a Website link and continue our e-mail
notices of upcoming events. And we hope to soon be able to allow you to make contact info
changes on the website, as well as RSVP and pay for events via a secure server. There is more
coming, and I urge your patience and good will as we move forward and make the Club more
responsive to your needs.

Go Bucks!
