The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan - Book 5 in the Percy Jackson series
This is the final installment of the series. As per the last book (book four),
a battle between the Titans and Olympus has been set.
The book starts with Percy and Charles Beckendorf on a mission to blow
up the Princes Andromeda, where Kronos--who has taken possession of
Luke's body--who is Annabeth's best friend, and is coming to New York.
Unfortunately they discover there is a spy at camp and they were
expected. The demigods blow up the ship, but Charles dies.
Percy is rescued by Pegasus who takes him to camp. War has already
commenced. Oceanus, the sea Titan, is battling Poseidon. The Gods are
fighting the Titan Typhus who starts his destructive path on the west coast-
-Mount St. Helene--and is moving slowly to New York, causing havoc
through his path as he heads to where Olympus is these days, on the
600th floor of the Empire State Building.
Since Percy is going to turn 16 in five days, Chiron, the centaur who heads
the Half Blood Camp reads the prophecy to Percy:
"A half blood of the eldest gods
Shall reach sixteen against all odds.
And see the world in endless sleep,
The hero's soul, curse blade shall reap.
A single choice shall end his days,
Olympus to preserve or raze."
Percy (through dreams) and help from his best friend, Annabeth, i s able to
deduct that the two attacks (Oceanus and Typhus), are nothing more than
a distraction and that Kronos is going to attack New York City directly. So
Percy takes all the demigods from camp to defend the city.
Convinced by Nico de Angelo, son of Hades , god of the underworld, Percy
takes a bath in the River Styx in the underworld--just like Achilles. With his
new powers they stop the first attract on NYC. But the war goes on. Percy
has to convince Poseidon, his father, to come to the defense of Olympus.
With Nico's help. They have to convince Hades to leave the underworld
and join the fight, Thalia, daughter of Zeus and head of the Hunters, and
finally Clarisse, daughter of Ares, god of war to join them also. With the
help of Hestia, goddess of the Hearth--the last Olympian--Grover, a satyr,
and Daedalus notes--creator of the minotaur labyrinth--it comes down to a
showdown between Kronos, Percy, and Annabeth where: A single choice
shall end his days, Olympus to preserve or raze.
