women should avoid
    bstetric medicine experts say the list of drugs
O   known to harm the fetus—whether they are
toxic or cause malformations—is shorter than most
suspect. However, your pregnant patients should
avoid the following drugs:
     ❑ Angiotensin-converting enzyme
           (ACE) inhibitors
     ❑ Alcohol
     ❑ Androgens
     ❑ Carbemazepine
     ❑ Cyclophosphamide
     ❑ Diethylstillbesterol
     ❑ Lithium
     ❑ Methimazole
     ❑ Methotrexate
     ❑ Phenytoin
     ❑ Retinoids (systemic)
     ❑ Tetracycline
     ❑ Thalidomide
     ❑ Valproic acid
     ❑ Warfarin
