ROP will honor you at a special ceremony.
The North Orange County ROP is proud to recognize outstanding students at a special ceremony
on May 15, at The City Grove of Anaheim. An invitation will be mailed to your home.
What can students win?
You may win cash. Last year, the Career Education Foundation gave about $40,000 in cash
awards to students. Just for being nominated, you will receive some cash, public recognition, and
a certificate of nomination.

High School Star Student Awards are presented to one student from each campus. All senior
nominees from each high school campus compete to be named ROP Student of the Year at their
high school. Last year more than 240 students at 26 high schools competed for this award and
each winner was awarded $250.
The Alan Rene Dewey Memorial Award is presented to the student who has made exceptional
progress in personal growth and who also speaks up for the rights of others. Last year $1500 was
divided among three finalists.

Instructions to the student for following the award guidelines
You are one of your instructor’s best students. If you follow these steps you are
guaranteed a cash award, a certificate and public honor in front of your friends, teachers
Step 1: Complete the nomination form.
Step 2:Write a letter to the committee (see suggested format in this packet).
Step 3:Ask two people besides your nominator for letters of reference.
Step 4:Complete your resume (see suggested format in this packet).
Step 5:Compile all and take to your nominator by TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21
Step 6:Receive a letter of recommendation from your nominator by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24
Step 7: Compile the entire packet, nomination form on top, and paperclip it together. Do not staple!!
Step 8: SUBMIT YOUR PACKET NO LATER THAN 5:00 PM on WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 29 to the
ROP Education Center, 385 N. Muller, Anaheim, CA 92801
Step 9: Attend the Celebration of Success on May 15 at The Grove of Anaheim.
A sample résumé and instructions are attached. Type your résumé. If you need help having it typed, ask
your teacher or counselor.
LETTER TO THE SELECTION COMMITTEE
The sample letter showing the style is attached. There are some suggestions about what you may wish to
write on the sample.
You must submit one reference from your nominator. You may submit two more. You will earn 1 extra
point for each of two additional references. These may come from employers, other teachers, volunteer
supervisors, spiritual directors, or adult friends of the family. Those two little points make a big difference.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21 – Show your completed packet to your teacher by this date, so if you need
assistance, your teacher can help you.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24 – Receive a letter of recommendation from your teacher

Please Use the attached sample to develop a one-page typed résumé with the objective
of finding a job in the career field for which you have been nominated. Include all and
only the five categories listed below.

Explain what skills you have learned: use bullets with an action word as the first
