         Teaching Vocabulary
• Pronounce the word and have students repeat
  it
• Explain the word and have students write
  meaning (highlight)
• Discuss at least two meaningful examples (K-
  W-L)
• Ask questions and have students share their
  views
• Review all of the Target Words
                 Oral Cloze
• Preview your copy of the reading selection
  with chosen cloze words
• Explain the purpose of Oral Cloze- to increase
  student response to instruction during shared
  reading assigned
• Maintain your pace and phrasing while
  reading/presenting the selection aloud
• Monitor students’ choral reading response for
  accuracy
       Think-(Write)-Pair-Share
• Provide an overview and from partnerships
• Ask a question and allow things and writing
  time (1 minute)
• Monitor partners as they discuss (2 minutes)
• Facilitate as pairs share with the class (3-5
  minutes)
                Idea Wave
• Explain the purpose and procedure for the
  activity
• Pose an open-ended question or task (Use 12
  powerful words to construct question)
• Provide examples and ask students to write
  their own ideas
• Direct the Idea Wave and facilitate a
  discussion by calling on students in turn to
  quickly respond
              Numbered Heads
•   Explain the purpose
•   Group the students and have them count off
•   Pose a question or task
•   Monitor and assist group discussions (3 mins)
•   Facilitate the class discussion (5-8 mins)

•   Brain storm to generate ideas

• Assign partners and give directions
• Monitor pairs as they evaluate and prepare
  feedback (5-7 minutes)
