For a relatively little player, Fusion-IO (FIO, $27.36) is showing just how much
disruption it can cause in the storage sector. The company’s flash-based storage
solutions are in high demand because Fusion-IO’s technology improves efficiencies
and reduces costs in the datacenter by allowing rapid access to so-called active data.

Fusion-IO shares are surging 30% today on massive volume after the company
reported better-than-expected fiscal Q4 results and offered bullish guidance for
fiscal 2013.

In fiscal Q4, EPS of nine cents beat the consensus estimate by five cents on revenue
of $106.6 million (+49% year over year), well above the consensus of $95.8 million.
Gross margin of 57.6% easily topped the guidance range of 53% to 55%.
For fiscal 2013, Fusion-IO expects revenue growth of 45% to 50% (above the
consensus growth estimate of 37%) and gross margin of 56% to 58% (above the
fiscal 2012 gross margin of 55.8%).
