Dec. 19- Regular Meeting (Last meeting for 2011!)

       Opening: Spartans

1-Program: Norm Wheeler and Emergency Preparedness

       2-Activity: Gingerbread House construction

       Game: Dodgeball

1-Norm Wheeler will speak about Emergency Preparedness and the troop drill we have scheduled in
February. (Mark your calendars now for the Saturday Feb 11th, whole-troop event!)

2-Then it’s EXTREME GINGERBREAD HOUSES! Can you make a replica of Foxfire Leanto? How about the
Mess Hall, Nature Lodge, Scoutcraft pavilion, or Waterfront tower from Camp Barton? We’re using
graham crackers to make Extreme Structures with royal icing. Each Scout needs to bring something to
contribute to the decorating materials. The only rule is that it must be edible. Think “outside-the-
box”. Be CREATIVE! All the decorating materials will be divided into bowls and put on out for everyone
to share. Some traditional decorating materials include: gum drops, M&Ms or Skittles, PEZ, Red Hots,
shredded coconut, Hershey candy bars, Lifesavers, NECCO wafers, Shredded Wheat or Life
cereal. Wander the candy and cereal aisles to come up with something fun to bring and share!

                         MERIT BADGE CALENDAR/REPORT
We have LOTS of Merit Badges in progress or starting soon. If you have any questions about Merit
Badges (or want to suggest one that we should offer to the whole troop) please contact Katrina Overton
(; 533-7898 home; 279-8259 cell). We do ask that scouts arrive on-time for
each scheduled merit badge session. The Merit Badge Counselors are volunteers who are doing a favor
to our troop by offering their time and talents.

-----Eagle Required Merit Badges:
Family Life – was started on October 10th; scouts are working on their 90 days of household chores and
writing responses to the remaining requirements. Our final meeting is scheduled for January 23rd at
7:00 p.m.

Citizen in the Nation – was started on November 5th; scouts should complete remaining requirements
prior to our next meeting on SATURDAY December 17th. We will meet on The Commons at 11:00 a.m. to
ring the Salvation Army bell for an hour, then eat lunch and head to Mrs. Mehravari’s house by 12:45
p.m. We are scheduled to be finished about 3:15 p.m.

Personal Management – MANY scouts in the troop need this badge. We will offer it now and again in
late spring. You MUST COMMIT to these dates and times to be able to take it this session. If you can’t,
please plan to take it next spring. Each session will have a maximum of 10 scouts. This session will
be Dec 19th and Jan 16thfrom 6:30 – 7:30. You MUST arrive early so we can begin each hour long session
on-time and this badge does include work to be done at home over the holiday break.

Emergency Preparedness – we had planned to offer this in December/January but due to low numbers,
we have cancelled. It will be offered in September/October 2012 with the whole-troop drill scheduled
for November. (Keep in mind that for Eagle, you must complete either E Prep or Lifesaving.)

First Aid – We plan to run this as a one day (Saturday) badge in April. The date will be set at next PLC.

Personal Fitness – Anyone who has completed their 12-week program will be meeting with a counselor
in January. The date is yet to be determine.

Hiking – Michael Williamson will be concluding this badge in late December/January.

-----Additional Merit Badges:

Coin Collecting – We plan to run this during a troop meeting in March. The date will be set at next
PLC. This badge will be open to all scouts.

Scholarship – We will offer this badge beginning in March/April.

Music – We will offer this badge in the spring.
