I.         Identification

           TITLE                                 :         Casual Residential Child Care Worker

           GRADE                                 :         SCP 30

           DEPARTMENT                            :         Children’s Services

           SECTION                               :         Apple Trees

           Responsible to                        :         Team Leader.

           Supervisory responsibility for:                 None


II.        Job Purpose

To provide a care service and be part of a team providing 24 hour respite care to
children and young people with moderate to severe learning difficulties and complex
health needs

III.       Main Tasks

          To assist in creating a caring and stimulating environment for the
            children and young people who access the service.

          To follow departmental procedures and individual care plans

          To assist children and young people to deal with behavioural difficulties or
           particular vulnerabilities.

          To maintain confidentiality

          To provide personal care and support to each child that is responsive to their
           particular needs.


IV.        Key Job Activities

           1.      To take responsibility for meeting the day to day needs of the
                   resident children and young people.

           2.      To contribute to the assessment and review of residents’ needs.

           3.      To contribute to the creation and implementation of care plans.

         4.        To maintain records as determined by departmental procedures and
                   establishment practices.

         5.        To work flexibly as part of a team while striving for high standards of
                   consistency in dealing with the behaviour and emotional problems of
                   residents.

         6.        To facilitate contact between the resident children and young people
                   and their families.

         7.        To work alongside other professionals (particularly from the
                   Education and Health Services), who might be involved with
                   the residents and their families.

         8.        To involve the children and young people in the running of the home
                   commensurate with their ages and abilities.

         9.        To receive professional supervision and guidance, and to play an
                   active part in promoting one’s own development.

         10.       To participate in training and to keep abreast of modern
                    developments in the service.

         11.       To contribute to the evaluation of the services provided by the
                   establishment.

         12.       To maintain established safety procedures and to bring any matters
                   concerning Health and Safety to the attention of the Team Leader.

         13.       To carry out clerical and/or administrative tasks associated with the
                   above.

         14.       To actively promote and develop the Borough Council’s visions and
                   values.

         15.       To participate and contribute to in-house and inter-agency training.

         16.       Fulfil personal requirements where appropriate with regard to Council
                   policies and procedures, particularly Health and Safety, equal
                   opportunities, emergency evacuation, security and standards in
                   relation to the work place.

         17.       To undertake other duties commensurate with the post as allocated
                   by line managers.



          Note:

         This Job Description forms part of the contract of employment of the person
         appointed to this post. It reflects the position at the present time only, and may be
         changed at management’s discretion in the future. As a general term of employment,
         the Council may effect any necessary change in job content, or may require the
         postholder to undertake other duties, at any location in the Council’s service, provided
         that such changes are appropriate to the employee’s remuneration and status.
