Objectives: The aim of the CAPP (Career and Personal Planning) course at
Constable Neil Bruce Middle School is for students to begin life planning and to
develop personally in order to become productive and responsible members of
The CAPP curriculum examines the following areas:
Child Abuse Prevention
Substance Abuse Prevention
Safety and Injury Prevention
This year our class will be using an exciting new resource called the GO
Program™. Designed by Premier Agendas™, this course is aligned with the BC
Ministry of Education Social Responsibility learning outcomes.
Each month, the GO Program™ will focus on one of Sean Covey’s 7 Habits of
Highly Effective Teens™:
2) Habit 1: Be Proactive™
3) Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind™
4) Habit 3: Put First Things First™
5) Habit 4: Think Win-Win™
6) Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood™
7) Habit 6: Synergize™
8) Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw™
9) Final Review and Test
Each week, students will participate in class discussions, watch a video,
participate in activities and complete workbook assignments related to one
Sean Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens™.
Specific Materials required:
- Go Workbook™/agenda-This must be brought to every class!
- 3-ring binder/loose-leaf paper
- Pencil crayons and art supplies, upon request
- Regular classroom supplies
- Sean Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens™.
Student marks will be based on a wide variety of tasks: assignments, projects,
exercises, quizzes, tests, skits, and other activities related to the CAPP curriculum.
All work will be evaluated according to provincial guidelines.
Reading/Math Drills 25%
Silent Reading- Students will be evaluated for reading silently and staying on task
and being prepared with a silent reading book each day.
Math Drills- Drill scores will be marked in class.
Agenda Completion and Daily Use 25%
GO program/CAPP curriculum 50%
20%-Go Workbook™/CAPP assignment completion
10%-GO Program™ weekly quizzes
20%- other CAPP assignments and activities
There is also a work habit mark (Good, Satisfactory, Needs Improvement), which
includes participation, homework/assignment completion, preparedness, and
punctuality. Work ethic criteria are posted in the classroom all year.
Marks are not taken off for late assignments; however, the work ethic mark is
negatively affected when a student hands an assignment in late. Students who
have not completed assignments on time must stay at lunch or break to complete
Students are expected to complete any assignments/tests that they missed while
they were away within one week of returning to school. If the student knows that
he or she will be away in advance of the absence (family reasons), obtaining the
assignments ahead of time is an option.
