SUMMARY:
The Crew Chief at [Your Company Name] provides office staff with filed data to
analyze and present graphically. The Crew Chief supervises the Instrument Personnel
to perform surveying tasks in the most efficient way possible.


AUTHORITY AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Crew Chief at [Your Company Name] is hired by, and reports to the Project
Manager. The Instrument Personnel reports to this position.

This position has the authority to direct and lead the Instrument Personnel in what
needs to done to accomplish the survey.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Crew Chief is responsible for:
 The successful and accurate completion of the survey
 The utilization of the proper equipment to complete the survey to both client and
   [Your Company Name] satisfaction
 Communicating with the client and Project Manager what information is needed
The Crew Chief's duties include but are not limited to:
1. Ensure the company philosophy of 'a fair day's work for a fair day's pay' is
   practiced
2. Ensure actual hours do not exceed the billable/budgeted/planned hours
3. Ensure a good understanding of the day's work
4. Ensure all information is available such as plats - research
5. Upload all filed data
6. Ensure all equipment is available
7. Efficient travel to job location
8. Proper set-up and equipment use
9. Ensure data collector is ready and used properly

11.Problem solving
12.Excellent 'people skills'
13.Keeping up-to-date with boundary law and construction procedures
14.Debriefing to Project Manager
15.Depart job location at the most efficient time rather than causing rework the next
   day
16. Be vigilant for ways to improve methods or procedures and make suggestions to
   the Project Manager
17.Additional duties which the President and General Manager may request


MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE:
The Crew Chief will be deemed to be performing satisfactorily when:
 Complete job within budget
 Have followed established survey standards and guidelines
 All tasks completed as required
 Not having to do a call back on a survey
 Client and [Your Company Name] satisfaction with work performed


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To execute this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential
duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,
skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or
six months to one year of related experience, and/or training; or equivalent
combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and
correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and
employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference,
and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as
fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.



REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several
concrete variables in standardized situations.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Drivers License.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
 Advanced surveying procedures
 Computer (data collection basics, CAD skills)
 Boundary terminology
 Construction terminology
 Map and plan interpretation
 Excellent knowledge of geometry and trigonometry
 Expertise in data collection
 Surveying calculations, i.e. logo
 Excellent supervisory skills
 Excellent communication skills
 A willingness to learn on the job
 'To think on one's feet' and make spontaneous decisions
 Familiarity with all surveying equipment
 Ability to type
 A future need for the ability to speak Spanish
 NOTE: The best skills and knowledge are gained by experience



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by
an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable

While performing the duties of this job, the Crew Chief frequently stands, walks, uses
hands to finger, handle or feel, reaches with hands and arms, stoops, kneels, crouches
or crawls, and talks & hears; regularly climbs or balances; and occasionally sits, tastes,
and smells.

The Crew Chief frequently lifts up to 25 pounds; regularly lifts up to 50 pounds;
occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds; and rarely lifts more than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required for this job include distance vision (clear vision at 20
feet or less); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down
or to the left and right while eyes are fixed at a given point); depth perception (three-
dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); and, ability to
adjust focus(ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment frequently is in the outdoors; occasionally working near
moving mechanical parts, and working in extreme heat and cold; never in wet

Loud noise may be experienced at times.
