Bosom Pals Appeal
About the Bosom Pals Appeal
Unfortunately, breast cancer is now the most common cancer in women
in the UK - one in nine women will develop breast cancer at some point
in their lifetime.
But there is hope for the future. Treatment for breast cancer has seen
great improvements in recent years, with more patients living longer.
Much of this success is due to earlier diagnosis and improved
We want to give patients the best possible chance of surviving breast
cancer. That's why Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation has joined forces
with Bosom Pals Patient Support Group to buy two new digital mammography
machines and associated computer equipment for the benefit of our patients.
The appeal will also fund improvements to the breast care unit at Southend
University Hospital, including enhancements to the patient environment and
state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment.
And we need your support to raise £750,000 towards this ambitious
project. You can help wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces and
friends - by making a donation today.

Ways you can help

Over the years, patients, families and friends have left legacies as a sign of
appreciation for the wonderful work and service provided by our hospital.
This money has helped to improve our services, research new treatments
and enhance the environment – laying the foundations for improved
healthcare for future generations.

One in five people in the UK die without a will, their assets distributed under the rules of intestacy.

Taking the time to make a Will gives you peace of mind and also ensures that the people you love and causes you care
about most are provided for.
By leaving a legacy to Southend Hospital Charity you will be helping to ensure that future generations will benefit from
the very best the hospital can offer.

Types of legacy
Pecuniary legacy: a specific sum of money.
Residuary legacy: after making specific and/or monetary gifts, the residue of your estate can be left to one person or
organisation, or divided amongst many.
Specific gift: is the gift of a specified possession such as property, valuables, works of art or stocks and shares.
If you are considering leaving a gift in your will, please call Lara on 01702 385337 for further information. In order to
leave a legacy you need to write a will, which can be easily arranged by contacting your solicitor.

Examples of recent legacies left to Southend Hospital Charity include:

£10,000 from the late Alfred Robert Cox for the Day Assessment Unit
£20,072.33 from the late Clive Lavers for the Oncology Department
£116,457.61 from the late Joan Hodge for the General purpose fund
£125 from the late Gladys Mary Gilbert for Princess Anne ward
