Judicial Educator: (generic title used in the profession)
Report to Chair of Judicial Education Committee and Chief Justice Frank J. Williams
Responsible for all aspects of mandatory judicial education including coordination of
system wide judges professional development conferences, (speaker contracting, facilities,
materials, credit awards, certification of credits, related correspondence), liaison to national
programs at the National Judicial College, National Council of Juvenile and Family Court
Judges, NYU Appellate Judges Conference, National Center for State Courts, ROSCOE Pound
Institute, Brandeis University Law and Literature Program and the ABA. Arrange for
scholarship applications using Bureau of Justice Assistance, State Justice Institute and Rhode
Island Foundation monies. Also, participate in ongoing curriculum planning within the Rhode
Island Supreme Court Judicial Education Committee. Communicate funding encumbrances to
Judicial Planning Unit and Rhode Island Supreme Court Finance Office.
Perform registrar function for recording mandatory Judicial Education credits. Inform
judges of their tallies, overages, deficits. Assist judges with program registration. Work on a
regional and national basis with other judicial educators offering regional judges training and
executive talent sharing. Member of the National Association of State Judicial Educators.
Other Related Duties:
Administrative liaison to Roger Williams University School of Law, CCRI, Bentley
College and Rhode Island Bar Association working on program development for court related
needs. Currently working on Limited English Speaking Litigants Court Interpreter Training.
Also serving fourth year as appointee to the Advisory Board of Bentley College Interpreter
Certification Program, Waltham, Massachusetts.
