Help! I keep losing points in my graphs!
First: VARIABLES

Identify the Name of the Dependent Variable: ____________________
This is the Y-axes. It is the Response measured.

The Units of the Dependent Variable: ____________

Identify the Name of the Independent Variable: ____________________
This is the X-axes. This is fixed by you or nature.

The Units of the Independent Variable: ____________

Second: SCALES and LABELS
Decide the Scale for Y and X. How?

Determine the Range for X (minimum value= __________; Maximum value= ___________ )

Determine the Range for Y (minimum value= __________; Maximum value= ___________ )

Now look at you graph paper and space and create a scale for each axes. (Example: One unit every
2 lines. Or one unit every 5 lines. Or every line is 4 units.)

Scale the X-Y axes (as a ruler). Decide if you need the (0,0) for slope purposes.
Write the Name and Unit by the X and the Y axes.

Third: TITLE
Select a descriptive Title for your graph.
Enzymes Timeline of Hydrolysis of Proteins by Enzymes
Denaturing enzymes
Molecules of sugar Hydrolysis of carbohydrates
Consumption of glucose at night in plants
Average number of grams of Glucose

Fourth: GRAPH
A line graph or a bar graph?

Is it a continuum over time, intensity?  a line graph
It is a change over time (continuum) for plant A and for Plant B?  Two line graphs-You need a
key
It is a comparison of two samples- no continuum?  a bar graph-You need a key
