NEW ARMSTRONG CEILING PROVIDES ACUSTICAL CONTROL
WHILE MAINTAINING THE LOOK OF OPEN PLENUM SPACES

New Optima Capz system maximizes ceiling height and
produces a visual that imparts a finished look to the space

CHICAGO, June 9, 2008 – As exposed structure and open plenum
designs continue to grow, so do the potential acoustic problems within those
spaces.
To help remedy this situation, Armstrong Ceilings has introduced a new
ceiling system that provides excellent sound absorption properties while still
maintaining the look and feel of exposed structure designs.
Called Optima Capz, the new ceiling system offers plenty of design
flexibility by pairing new Capz accent hardware with the exceptional acoustical
benefits of fine-textured Optima ceiling panels. The new system can be installed
directly to a metal deck to maximize ceiling height, onto drywall, or suspended
with wires.
The new system is especially well suited for such applications as
open plenum offices, educational spaces such as science labs, cafeterias and
gymnasiums, and retail establishments.
New Construction or Retrofit
Ideal for use in new construction, the system is also a simple, affordable
way to retrofit poor acoustic-performing exposed structure spaces. That’s
because Optima Capz panels feature a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC)
of 0.90, meaning the panels absorb 90% of the sound that strikes them. As
a result, Optima Capz panels installed over only 20% of an area can reduce
undesirable reverberation noise by 50%.
                                        -more-
                                           -2-
In addition to their acoustical properties, Optima Capz panels also have an
exceptionally high Light Reflectance (LR) value of 0.90. This means the panels
reflect 90% of the light striking them, thereby improving the effectiveness of the
lighting.
Large, Lightweight Panels
The large, lightweight panels are offered in seven sizes, including 2x4,
2x5, 2x6, 2x8, 3x3, 4x4 and 4x8, providing a wide choice of layouts. The panels
can be designed in long runs, grouped in clouds or placed individually based on
the acoustical needs of the space.
Optima Capz panels also feature factory-finished edges for a finished
look, and unlike direct glued or pin attachment systems, provide downward
accessibility after installation.
Environmentally, the low formaldehyde Optima Capz panels feature a
recycled content of 70% - 75% and are recyclable at the end of their service life.
Pre-Engineered System
The Optima Capz system includes hanger brackets that attach directly
to the deck or building substructure, standard 15/16” Prelude grid that attaches
to the brackets, threaded bolts that snap onto the grid, caps in two color options
that thread onto the bolts, and large size Optima panels with pre-drilled holes to
accept the bolts and caps.
Installation of the pre-engineered system is fast and easy. The light weight
of the panels makes them easy to handle and cut, while the bolt-cap components
allow for easier leveling and alignment.
