							                  Indian Removal Map Assignment:
Directions – using your textbook on page 356, complete the following map and answer
the questions.

1. Use colored pencils to SHADE and LABEL the areas where the following Indian
nations lived before 1830.

Seminole (orange)
Creek (green)
Choctaw (red)
Cherokee (purple) Also – Label this route “The Trail of Tears”
Chickasaw (blue)
Sauk (yellow)
Fox (brown)

   2. Shade the area given to the Indians and label it “Indian Territory”.

   3. Create a KEY in the blank box.


   4. Using matching colors or patterns, show the routes each Indian Nation traveled to
      the Indian Territory. Place these routes in the “Key”.

   5. Locate Fort Gibson, Fort Coffee and Fort Smith. Place a fort symbol similar to the
   one in the text at these locations and label them.

   5. Questions to answer – place answers on a separate sheet of paper:

          a. In which states did the Cherokee live before 1830?
          b. Which Indian nations lived in the Great Lakes area before 1830?
          c. Which Indian nation had to cross the Gulf of Mexico after 1830?
          d. Which Indian nation lived in Mississippi before 1830?
          e. In which general direction did all the Indians have to move after the
             passage of the Removal Act?
          f. What do you think: Why did Congress choose the specific site that they
