							Advanced Placement Chemistry

Course Description:

This course will cover topics in the scientific method, metric measurements, classification and structure of matter, the Atomic
Theory, the periodic table, chemical bonding, chemical formulas, gas laws, solutions including acids and bases, redox reactions,
thermodynamics, organic compounds and chemistry in society. This class is the equivalent of Chem 2045 and 2046 in any
accredited college or university.

access the website to view and/or print the assignments.

Also an AP Chemistry review book will need to be purchased as soon as possible!


Expectations:
For survival in this course, the instructor expects the student to complete all homework assignments. It has been my
experience that students that successfully complete the assigned problems and put in ample time studying will pass the AP
exam. Study sessions will be made available to help students.


Grades are based on accumulation of total points in the grading period. Points are awarded in the following areas:
Tests: up to 100 points                                          90-100% = A
Quizzes: 10-50 points                                            80-89 = B
Labs: up to 50 points                                            70-79 = C
Homework: up to 50 points                                        60-69 = D
                                                                Below 60 = F
Homework:
Assignments will be due before the end of the Unit as determined by the instructor. The instructor will pick 5 homework
questions to be graded unbeknownst to the student. Your grade will be based on how accurate you has answered these questions.



Labs:
Each student will participate in the labs. Handouts will be completed and turned in the next day. Labs are graded based on both
participation and accuracy.

All labs are on my website and must be printed before the assigned lab date.


Quizes:
Bell work quizzes will occur throughout the topic of discussion daily. Quizzes are used to make sure the student is “up to date”
on the homework assignments



Tests:
Will be administered at the end of each unit.
