Archer High School Cheerleading
2009-2010 Tryout Informational Meeting

*Coach Landress will assist with Varsity FB/Comp and Coach Beuglas will coach the JV
squad for the 2009-2010 school year.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. For current 8th graders, all participants must be currently enrolled at
McConnell, Dacula, or Richards middle schools and live in the Archer
district. For 9th – 11th graders who attend Central, Dacula or Grayson, you
must live in the Archer district and have your Archer preference already on
file. Permissive transfers are not eligible for Varsity for 1 year.
2. There are no academic requirements for current 8th grade students. All
current 9th – 11th grade students must be academically eligible. Academically
eligible is defined as being on track to graduate and having passed 5 out of 6
classes the previous semester. Additional information defining “on track to
graduate” can be found on the Archer High School website under Athletics.
3. A current physical and insurance waiver form must be completed and
submitted by the paperwork deadline in order to participate in tryouts.
Physicals are good for one calendar year. It is your responsibility to make
sure the form is complete and turned in on time. No forms, No
participation, No exceptions. The physical and insurance form can be found
on the Archer High School website under Athletics.

4. All participants and a guardian must sign a consent form to participate in
tryouts.
Forms: (Checklist of what needs to be turned in or read) The due date for ALL forms is April
1st. They may be turned in at McConnell MS to Carol Dishman, Grayson HS to Jody
Prescott, or Dacula HS to Leigh Ann Landress.

Learn Tryout Material 4/13/09 – 4/17/09 4:45pm – 7:00pm McConnell MS

Tryout Format:
1. Participants will be taught 2 cheers, 3 chants, and a dance. The cheers will
incorporate either tumbling or a jump.
2. At tryouts you will asked to perform:
Toe Touch
2-Jump Sequence
Standing Tumbling
Running Tumbling
1 Cheer – Judges choose
1 Chant – Judges choose
Dance
3. The final day of tryouts, please wear a red, gray, black OR white solid tank
or t-shirt and red, gray, black OR white solid athletic shorts.
4. Hair should be neatly pulled up so it does not rest on shoulders.
Areas Of Evaluation – During the week of tryouts, the coaches will be evaluating participants
on the following:
1. Work Ethic – works hard, positive attitude, works well with others, self discipline,
responds appropriately to constructive criticism
2. Ability to learn and remember – learns and recalls quickly
3. Timing – cheers, chants and dance
4. Motions – placement, sharpness, no bent wrists
5. Jumps – clean approach, height, straight legs, pointed toes, clean landing
6. Tumbling – height, form, level of difficulty, timing
7. Showmanship – enthusiastic, strong voice projection, smiles, ability to lead a crowd
8. Appearance – short fingernails, no jewelry, athletic apparel, athletic shoes, hair
neatly pulled up
Squad Selection – A score sheet will be used on the final day of tryouts, but will not be the
only deciding factor for squad selection. The score will be used as an additional tool in
creating well-rounded teams. Coaches will be evaluating participants throughout the entire
week not just the final day of tryouts. We will be looking for cheerleaders who can fill the
roles we have determined will make the best team. For the 2009-2010 school year, we will
have 3 squads: Varsity Football/Competition, Varsity Basketball, and JV
Football/Basketball
Upon making the squad, the cheerleader and parent/guardian will need to sign and return the
Archer High School Cheerleading Constitution acknowledgement form.

Please keep in mind that these estimates are for new cheerleaders. The cost for
cheerleaders cheering subsequent years will be less since all items will not need to be
purchased again.
Additional money for spirit supplies, pre-game meals, etc., will also be collected as needed
by the Team Parent.
We recognize that cheerleading is a very expensive sport. We will do everything we can to
keep your costs down.
The Booster Club will be responsible for initiating fundraising activities for the
cheerleaders to participate in. These activities are mandatory and will be needed to
supplement expenses incurred by the program and keep your costs as low as possible.
