• It is your responsibility to make sure you have the
necessary prereqs
• C Programming is a prerequisite course for most
Winter courses
• A prereqs list will be posted online

PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS
• Realize that this is not high school
• Allocate at least 1 to 2 hours outside of class for
each hour in class
• Attend classes on time
• Check the appropriate course websites (where
applicable)
• Find out about missed material from a classmate
• Hand in assignments on time
5
DISCONTINUANCE
• If you have 5 or more outstanding failures at the
end of the Winter semester, you will be
discontinued
• If you fail the same SET-specific course twice,
you will be discontinued
• “SET-specific course” = a course that
originates in the SET program and is taught
by SET faculty
• If you have taken over 7 years to complete the
program, you will be discontinued
6
EXAMS
• The only accepted reasons for missing exams are
specific weather issues (detailed in the video),
documented illness, bereavement, and court.
• You cannot enter an exam more than 30 minutes
late. You cannot leave an exam before 30 minutes
is up.
• Can’t use resources and electronic equipment
unless otherwise instructed.
7
SUPPLEMENTALS
• For most SET-related courses, you might be
eligible for a Supplemental to enable you to
have another chance to pass a course if:
1. Your final mark was between 50 and 54, inclusive
2. At least 75% of individual assignments in the
course were submitted with an average mark of
at least 50%
3. All major projects and group assignments must
be submitted with an average mark of at least
50%
4. All exams must be attempted
If you qualify, you must follow the Procedure
on Clearance of Academic Deficiency on page
27 of the Student Guide
This standard is in addition to the published 8
standard in the Student Guide
RETAKING COURSES
• If you fail a course, it is your responsibility to add it
on the Student Portal or to see your coordinator on
Special Timetable day in the week before it is re-
offered to get the course added to your timetable
• This does not happen automatically
• If you don’t do it, you will not have the course
added and the failure will remain outstanding
• There is no guarantee that the course will fit into
your timetable without having a conflict
• You will most likely have to pay extra for the
retake
• If you pass a course but want to retake it, you can
do so by paying extra
• Your newest mark will apply (so you can fail a
course after passing it) 9
I’LL SAY IT AGAIN, IN A DIFFERENT FONT
Failed courses will
NOT be
automatically
added to your
timetables!
10
TAKING AN EXTRA YEAR TO GRADUATE
• If you do not graduate on time, you can take an
extra year (or more)
• If you do take an extra year:
• You must meet the program design standards (i.e.
courses passed) for the year that you graduate in
• You must graduate within 7 years of starting
11
GETTING REFUNDS ON DROPPED
COURSES
• If you drop a course, you will only get a refund if:
• You are in part-time status, and
• You drop it before the Course Drop With Refund deadline
• If you have to add a course that you previously dropped, you will most
likely have to pay for it in full
12
CO-OP
• It’s optional (but highly recommended)
• Apply during this upcoming Winter semester
• Average of first year, non-GenEd, marks
• 80% or higher: accepted
• Less than 80%: case-by-case basis, based on course
performance, interview, number of acceptances already
granted
• Cannot have a failed or dropped non-GenEd course
• Exemptions and PLARs are ignored in calculating the
average
• A few companies who have (so far) employed our co-ops:
• RIM
