Comparing Distributions When describing a distribution, always mention the… • Center • Unusual features (gaps, outliers) • Shape (unimodal, symmetric, skewed, uniform….) • Spread And don’t forget to C.U.S.S. in context But what if you want to compare more than one distribution? Just compare the CUSS of each distribution. Comparing Boxplots Because boxplots give us the five-number summary, however, we should go into a little more detail. Compare the medians – which group has the higher center? Compare the IQR’s – which group is more spread out? Check for outliers and identify them if you can.
