Safe Space believes that all children deserve to grow up healthy and safe, and we work to
ensure this through early intervention. Each year, Safe Space works with over 10,000 of New
York City's most disadvantaged children and families to prevent foster care placement,
support and strengthen families and promote self-sufficiency.

Position Summary:

Responsible for identifying, designing implementing and providing individual, family and
group therapeutic counseling, psycho-education, case management and supportive services to
address urgent and long-term mental health and family issues of youth attending Safe Space’s
Jamaica Drop-In Center, “The Space” and other youth serving programs. Special emphasis is
on family/partner violence issues for all of our high-risk youth, including targeting the special
needs of LGBTQ adolescents. The primary goals of this position are to prevent
homelessness and to assist youth in establishing maintaining and maintaining a healthy
supportive relationship with at least one adult in her/his life. This is a grant supported


       Provide clinical counseling, case management, support and advocacy to prevent
        homelessness and family/partner violence among at risk youth
       Perform mental health, substance abuse and other clinical assessment to youth
        who present themselves for services at “The Space”
       Work collaboratively with all other Safe Space programs and community
        providers to ensure that youth and their families (if indicated) receive the highest
        quality, integrated services that address their goals, aspirations, and needs.
       Complete all documentation in conformance with government, funder and agency
        regulations and requirements.
       Work with street and homeless youth to identify options for housing, including
        returning home or with family if deemed appropriate
       Act as a liaison with any existing service providers involved with the youth or
        their family
       Facilitate clinical workshops/groups, youth and family supportive groups, and
        psycho-educational workshops at the Drop-in center as part of programming
       Submit timely reports to supervisor as requested
       Assist Director with programming and program development
       Conduct outreach and presentations as needed and as assigned
       Provide clinical consultation to Safe Space programs that serve adolescents and
        young adults.
       All other relevant duties as delegated by supervisor

      MSW Degree
      New York State License as either a Master or Clinical Social Worker
      1-3 years working in human services, preferably in youth services
      Knowledge and understanding of at risk youth population required
      Flexibility in schedule required
      Capacity to use computerized charting and recordkeeping systems.
      Bi-lingual preferred
