The Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) an independent statutory agency that promotes,
protects and advances human rights in Ontario, requires legal counsel. The position is in the Public
Interest Inquiries Branch. The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of human rights
legal issues that impact the lives of Ontarians.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will conduct public interest inquiries, intervene at tribunals and courts, and bring applications with
broad public impact before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Significant research, writing, advocacy
and litigation skills are required. You will provide legal advice to Commission staff on the project team,
and to Commissions. You may also provide or participate in training or mediation. Some travel is

Knowledge & Skills
knowledge of: human rights, equality rights/discrimination jurisprudence and the Charter; significant
knowledge and experience in administrative law and civil procedure; strong litigation skills, solid writing,
and excellent research and analytical skills; proven judgement and tact, as well as strong
communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills; ability to work both independently and on teams;
ability to function effectively under pressure and with very tight time lines; patience, tolerance and an
ability to determine what is important or material; proficiency with computers, word processing and
research software applications.
