Character Camp is an incredible community program that deeply impacts inner city
public school students. We have partnered with public schools since 1996 in order
to address academic, physical and social needs of children. Character Camp works!
We are instilling positive character traits in students who need it most. Because of
Honesty our work with inner city children, many of them are quoting our catch phrase:
“Good Things Happen To Good People” and they are interacting more positively
Respect with their teachers and peers.
Courage One of the most common and disturbing concerns being voiced by teachers is the
Gratitude issue of discipline—educators are spending far too much time addressing negative
behavior. In spite of competent teachers and capable students, academic excellence
Patience is still being threatened by declining conduct. Conduct is a character issue, no
doubt about it. The good news is that character can be shaped, especially when it is
Kindness addressed early.
Teamwork We are seeking the support of community leaders and concerned individuals who
Responsibility care about children and are willing to invest in their development. Your
sponsorship will allow us to target fifteen vital character traits that will make a
Self-esteem significant difference, not only in the classroom, but in all of life.
Forgiveness Character Camp helps children to:
Obedience Have higher graduation rates
Make healthier sexual choices
Humility Avoid risky habits and behaviors
Maintain better dietary habits
Teachableness
Grow into better citizens
Self-control Become more productive employees
Drive We recruit solid mentors who model superior ethics and character traits. We take
inner city kids out of their familiar environment, into a wilderness Youth Camp
setting for an experience they will remember for a lifetime. We use fine retreat
centers such as the Gordon Ranch, Trinity Pines Conference Center and Forest Glen
Camp.
Our kids experience everything from pony rides and obstacle courses to paddleboats
and miniature golf, from campfires and hayrides in the evening to swimming and
archery in the summer sun. The kids are well-fed, well-protected, comfortable and
chaperoned by adults with proven character, a love for kids and a talent for
transferring important life skills. Hosting youth retreats is real work. We do it
because we see the results.
