CHAPTER 6
LESSON # 63 (10-26-04)
II Cor. 6:1
1. Chapter six covers the practical aspects of the universal ministry of believers. Chapter seven covers the thinking of
the believer, and chapters eight and nine cover one of the privileges of the priesthood - giving.
2. And working together with Him - SUNERGEO ( pt. pa, npm, to work together with, to cooperate
with. Two things tend to jump out in this verse. 1) We are expected to work 2) We are expected to work together.
3. We are all on the same team, and we are to cooperate with each other; we are NOT to COMPETE with each other!
When players on the same team compete instead of cooperate with each other, they have had it.
4. This does not mean that we are all alike, share the same interests, or have a lot in common. It is not important that
we root for the same baseball team, support the same politicians, or like the same music. What is important is that
we recognize each other’s privacy and live and let live.
5. We do not all have the same spiritual gift. But it is the combination of spiritual gifts and working together in harmony
that moves the church forward and accomplishes the work God has apportioned to us.
6. There is no such thing as insignificant work done for the Lord. All are not called to be pastor-teachers, evangelists, and
missionaries, but all are called to use their spiritual gift and to work together in harmony with other believers.
7. We must all work together with Him, which means that we are to be co-producers with Christ.
8. The word urge is the same Greek word translated entreating in verse 20.
9. What does it mean to receive the grace of God in vain? Does It mean that we can lose our salvation? NO!!! The
last five verses of the previous chapter informed us that God graciously made us ambassadors and gave us the
commission to tell others how they can be reconciled to God, too. That happened because of God’s grace, and we
receive that grace in vain if we fail to be good ambassadors, spreading the gospel and standing firm for B.D.
II Cor. 6:2-3
1. Now we have a quote from Isa. 49:8. Scripture documents the fact that the gospel has been presented throughout
the world, Acts 17:6, Col.1:6, and I Tim.3:16.
LESSON # 64 (10-28-04)
2. God-consciousness is defined as the point a person becomes aware of the existence of God. It may also be
classified as the point of accountability. (Study I Peter 1:1-6.)
3. I helped you - BOETHEO v. aai, to come to the aid of someone who cries out for help. This refers
to God’s imputations of eternal life and +R to anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Savior.
4. Paul was telling the believers in Corinth that now, right then, was the day of salvation because there was a great
amount of positive volition that existed there. The harvest was ripe for picking.
5. This also means that now, while you are still alive, is the day of salvation. Once an unbeliever dies physically, the
door of salvation is permanently shut. There is no purgatory between heaven and hell.
6. In verse three, Paul was telling the Corinthians that they were becoming a huge turnoff for Corinthian unbelievers
who showed signs of positive volition at God-consciousness. It was their legalistic, judgmental attitude that was
turning them away. Factions and clicks had developed within the church in Corinth because believers kept on
sniping and competing with one another.
LESSON # 65 (11-2-04)
Gen.6:3, Doctrine of God-Consciousness
John 16, Convicting Ministry of God the Holy Spirit
I Cor.2:11, Common and Efficacious Grace at Salvation
LESSON # 66 (11-4-04)
7. Many, if not most, of the unbelievers today roll their eyes when they hear the word “Christian.” Why is that? Be-
cause believers today, just like the Corinthians, turn unbelievers off by not living up to the Royal Family Honor Code.
8. The ministry be not discredited - DIAKONIA (n. nsf, commission, ministry, or service to the Lord.
the universal ministry of believers. When you offend others by your behavior, you give us all a bad name.
II Cor. 6:4-5
1. Verses 4 through 10 can be broken down into three categories:
Verses 5-6, Pressure Verses 6-7, Stability Verses 8-10, Adaptability
2. But in all things demonstrating ourselves [pt. pa] to be ministers / servants belonging to God.
3. It is relatively easy for believers to excel when it comes to issues that relate to their areas of strength, but this verse
says we are to act commendably under all circumstances, including those affecting our areas of weakness.
4. Ministers / servants – DIAKONOS (s)n. npm, one who renders service to another, a servant.
This word is used four different ways:
1) In a public sense, Rom.13:4 3) Referring to deacons, Phil.1:1, I Tim.3:8,12
2) Referring to a PT, I Cor.3:5, Eph.3:7 4) To every believer, II Cor.6:4,
5. How are we to demonstrate ourselves to be servants of God?
Eph.4:22-24 - You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old man, which is being
corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new man,
created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Col.3:9-10 - Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on
the new man, which is being renewed [pt. pp] in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
6. Now we have a list that gives various testing we undergo during which we are expected to demonstrate that we are
servants of God by reflecting His glory.
patient endurance - HUPOMONE ( HUPO = under, MONE = to abide, to continue to use Faith
Rest and divine viewpoint over the long hall. of pressures - THLIPSIS (s) trials, trouble, adversity,
persecution. This word conveys the idea of mental pressure that can develop from distressing circumstances.
LESSON # 67 (11-9-04)
7. Many, if not most, of the unbelievers today roll their eyes when they hear the word “Christian.” Why is that? Be-
cause believers today, just like the Corinthians, turn unbelievers off by not living up to the Royal Family Honor Code.

6. Now we have a list that gives various testing we undergo during which we are expected to demonstrate that we are
servants of God by reflecting His glory.
1) patient endurance - HUPOMONE ( HUPO = under, MONE = to abide, to continue to use Faith-
Rest and divine viewpoint over the long hall. of pressures - THLIPSIS (s) trials, trouble, adversity,
persecution. This word conveys the idea of mental pressure that can develop from distressing circumstances.
a. There is a difference between enduring pressure with anger, fear, resentment, or complaining and handling
pressure with courage, confidence, patience, and +Happpiness.
b. God has designed suffering to be a source of great blessing for believers. It gives God a chance to show off
believers who have grown spiritually to other people and to angels.
c. God’s glory is manifested when a believer Faith-Rests under pressure. His complete and total sufficiency
under adverse circumstances is demonstrated when the believer trusts Him. So God is glorified and the
believer is blessed when the heat is on.
d. God has equipped us in such a marvelous way so that stress cannot touch us unless we ignore the defenses
He has provided for us that make us invincible against insidious attacks.
2) in compulsions - ANAGKE (compression, compulsion, necessity; to undergo bullying, torture, or
to lose freedom. This occurs when someone forces their will upon us.
3) in distresses - STENOCHORIA (STENOS = narrow, CHORA = place. Metaphorically, this
came to mean "distress arising from that condition, anguish;" excruciating pain in soul or body, anguish, distress.
4) vs 5, in beatings - PLEGE (a wound, stripe, bruise, or injury from violence. It wasn’t unusual for
believers to be victims of violence in those days, and it is not unusual in much of the world today either.
5) in imprisonments - PHULAKE (a cage, jail, or prison. In context it means unjust, unfair,
imprisonment. To be deprived of your normal functions in life.
6) in tumults - AKATASTASIA (commotion, confusion, revolution, riots, mobs. This has to
do with sufferings due to political persecution.
(7 in labors - KOSPOS (s) to be exhausted from hard labor or to be weary due to incessant pestering.
This can refer to physical or mental exhaustion.
(8 in sleeplessness - AGRUPNIA (to keep watch, to stay awake, sleep deprivation.
(9 In hunger - NESTEIA ( to be deprived of food. All of these sufferings have a lot to do with being
deprived of the basic necessities and functions of life.
LESSON # 68 (11-11-04)
II Cor. 6:6
1. Now the focus is on the means by which they endured the testings listed above.
2. by purity - AGNOTES (s), refers to purity of life. How is purity of life maintained by C.A. believers?
Through KRY [KAST: Know - Rom. 6:6 Acknowledge- Rom. 6:11 Submit- Rom. 6:16 Thanksgiving – Rom. 6:17 ]
and through Rebound.
3. by knowledge - GNOSIS (s). We are familiar with this word that means a technical knowledge. Here, it is
used to mean categorical knowledge of doctrine: Soteriology, Angelology, Ecclesiology, Eschatology, Christology,
Pneumatology, and Hamartiology
4. by patience - MACROTHUMIA (longsuffering, fortitude, patience. When we are filled with the
Holy Spirit, we can maintain purity and acquire knowledge (B.D.) which are prerequisites for having patience.
5. by kindness - CHRESTOTES (s), gentleness, goodness, kindness. The natural result of patience is
kindness. Your attitude toward people depends on what is going on in your soul. Kindness reflects the glory of God
in the believer who renews his inner man day by day, II Cor. 4:16.
LESSON # 69 (11-16-04)
6. by the Holy Spirit - All of the things listed in this verse are accomplished by the power of the Holy Spirit working in
the life of a believer who is in fellowship with God.
7. by genuine love - ANUPOKRITOS (s), a compound word, AN = negative, HUPOCRISIS =
hypocrite. So it means something genuine and non-hypocritical.. AGAPE ( is virtue love.
II Cor. 6:7
1. by the word of truth - A believer can be filled with the Holy Spirit, but he also must have the Word of truth
circulating in his stream of consciousness to be able to withstand the adversities that are noted here. If he has the
filling of the Holy Spirit and the Word of truth, then he will have what is listed next, the power of God.
2. by the power of God - We all choose who’s power we will depend on to meet the challenges we face every single
day. Eph. 6:10 tells us to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His strength.
a. Utilizing our Lord’s power is not an automatic or inherently natural process.
b. First of all, we must want to use it, and then, we must know how to use it.
c. We have learned that we must be filled with the Holy Spirit before we can operate on God’s power. We must
have knowledge of pertinent doctrine to apply or to help us make the right decision in each circumstance.
d. Then, we can say with the apostle Paul, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me,” Phil. 4:13.
3. by means of the armor of righteousness - Ephesians reminds us that we are in a great spiritual war, and God
has provided us with sophisticated spiritual armor, Eph. 6:13-17.
4. for the right hand and the left - In the Roman army, all soldiers carried their shield in their left hand and their
sword in their right hand. So the left hand was used for defense, and the right was used for offense. The armor God
provides for us is both defensive and offensive in nature.
LESSON # 70 (11-18-04)
II Cor. 6:8
1. If we are to remain stable and balanced in the Devil’s world, we must be able to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
Starting with verse eight, we have examples of extreme circumstances which require great versatility on the part of
believers.
2. Through glory and dishonor - Antithetical circumstances are mentioned in order to demonstrate how a believer
must be able to cope with rapidly changing circumstances. Here, the focus is on the adjustment that must be made
when good circumstances turn to bad.
a. People in sports can identify with the drastic change of going from glory to dishonor.
b. Also people who have gotten a “Dear John” letter can identify with this.
3. through evil report and good report - This is a paronomasia in the Greek. DUSPHEMIA = bad report , to slander
someone; EUPHEMIA = a good report, to say something good about someone. In English it could be stated that
the first is CONDEMNATION, and the second, COMMENDATION. It is easy to understand that adjusting to
condemnation is difficult, but it can also be difficult to adjust to commendation. Some people are so self-conscious
and shy that they hate being the center of attention, even when it is praise. Others have a hard time accepting
compliments from someone who condemned them in the past. They don’t realize how fickle people are and they
tend to hold a grudge. Because they refuse to adjust to the situation, they go on the attack rather than using the
occasion to demonstrate grace and poise.
4. regarded as deceivers [PLANOS (s) = misunderstood] and yet true - There are going to be times when
you will be misunderstood. As believers who know and apply doctrine, we should expect people to think that we are
peculiar, strange, or even weird. Some will call us religious know-it-alls, others will say that we are unloving and
even call us imposters, accusing us not to be true Christians. Some will say that we embrace false doctrine and
others will think that we are religious fanatics.
LESSON # 71 (11-23-04)
II Cor. 6:9
1. as unknown yet well known - Paul and his companions were unknown as they traveled to foreign lands, but they
were very well-known to God, His angels, those they witnessed to, and to us.
2. as dying yet behold, we live - Paul had so many enemies, both angelic and human, that he never took a day for
granted. Danger was lurking behind every corner, yet Paul knew full well that the time and manor of his death
was in God’s hands and not his enemies’.
3. punished but not put to death - Paul recognized that divine discipline is for the purpose of training and getting
back into fellowship with God. The solution for avoiding the Sin Unto Death is to Rebound and move on. The worst
thing a person can do when he is punished is to sulk, pout, and be full of self-pity. Acknowledge your sin to God,
learn from the suffering, and then get on with your life.
II Cor. 6:10
1. being sorrowful, LUPEO (pt.pp, being in constant pain. This can refer to either physical pain, mental
pain, or both. It often refers to grief or sorrow. When tragedy rudely disrupts the life of a believer, he can easily
become so overwhelmed by it that he never recovers. Such people usually blame God and become consumed with
anger, bitterness, and self-pity.
2. Many times, we must endure suffering that is brought on by our own bad decisions, but sometimes they seem to come
out of nowhere. That is when its tough, especially when the suffering seems to go on and on and on. The apostle Paul
could certainly identify with this.
3. We can’t control our circumstances but that should not discourage us. Why? Because Even Though We Can’t
Control Circumstances, Circumstances Can’t Control Us . . . Unless We Allow Them To. Neh. 8:10 - . . .
neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
John 16:20-22
4. The passive voice of “sorrow” is indicative of what circumstances do to us, and the active voice of “rejoicing” is indicative of
what we do about it. Stress cannot touch us no matter how dire the circumstances become if we utilize the divine assets
that God has made available to us.
LESSON # 72 (11-30-04)
5. This is a marvelous demonstration that no set of circumstances can rob a growing believer of true happiness. God’s plan
for us is so wonderful that nothing can take our joy, stability, and contentment from us. We stay strong and contented as
long as we are thinking divine viewpoint.
6. poor yet making many rich, - Paul and his companions had very few belongings, but they were extremely wealthy
because of how many others they had enriched by their teaching. True wealth is not measured by how much you own,
but by how much you give, especially when given from your Divine viewpoint. No one is richer than the believer with
Bible doctrine in his soul!
7 . as having nothing yet possessing all things - This does not refer to being in poverty but to lacking the normal details
of life such as a social life, a house, health, friends, sex, membership in a club, etc. but still possessing food and clothing.
II Cor. 6:11-12
(KJV) 2 Cor.6:11-12 - Our mouth is open unto you, O Corinthians, our heart is enlarged. Ye are not straitened in us,
but ye are straitened in your own affections. Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels.
(NIV) 2 Cor.6:11-12 - We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. We are
not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. (NIV)
(CT) 2 Cor.4:11-12 - Oh your Corinthians, our mouth has been opened to you and remain open to you, our
hearts have been enlarged and remain enlarged. You have not been hindered by us, but you have been hindered
by your own emotions.
1. Now we move from the subject of adapting to circumstances to a problem that the Corinthians were having that was
stunting their spiritual growth, and the apostle Paul speaks to them directly. When he said, “O you Corinthians”, he
was addressing the believers who had rejected his teaching and were being dominated by their emotions.
2. They wanted to be happy and to enjoy life, but since they refused to metabolize doctrine, they had nothing to turn to
but their emotions to supply what they wanted.
3. Our mouth has been opened; ANOIGO (, v. rai, meaning to open. The mouth can be opened to take in air,
water, or food but it can also be opened to speak or to communicate. The context indicates that this is a reference to
communicating doctrine.
4. our heart is enlarged; What does this mean? Did they need to see a cardiologist because they had some kind of
heart disease? Were they said to have a big heart because they were so generous and compassionate? PLATUNO
( v. rpi, to expand, broaden, enlarge. The heart, KARDIA, is the dominate portion of the soul that contains
one’s norms and standards. A person grows spiritually when his soul is expanded from learning God’s Word.
5. You have not been hindered by us; STENOCHORO ( v. ppi, STENO = narrow, CHORO = space, to
be in a cramped space, to restrict, limit, or hinder. The Corinthians were not hindered in their spiritual growth because of
Paul or anyone on his team.
6. emotions ; SPLAGCHNON (n. dpn. This word is used in Acts 1:18 for literal intestines, but here it refers
to emotions. The Greeks had no word for emotions, so they used various body parts when referring to emotions.
LESSON # 73 (12-2-04)
II Cor. 6:13
(KJV) 2 Cor.6:13 - Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged.
(NIV) 2 Cor.6:13 - As a fair exchange, I speak as to my children, open wide your hearts also.
(CT) 2 Cor.6:13 - Now for wages {a reward not based on merit] . . .in the like kind [same as you gave yourself over
to emotions, give yourself to daily intake of doctrine] . . . I speak as unto adult children [grown up in years, but not
spiritually mature] . . . you also be enlarged! [have maximum bible doctrine in your souls]
1. wages; ANTIMISTHIA ( ANTI = against, MISTHOS = wages or reward. This refers to a reward
that is not earned. If the Corinthian believers would seek Bible doctrine in the same way that they sought emotional
stimulation, they would not be let down or discouraged, but would be rewarded, Matt. 6:33.
2. be enlarged; Again we have the verb PLANTUNO, but this time, it is the aorist passive imperative. This is a
command to grow up spiritually by means of learning the mandates of the Word of God.
THE DOCTRINE OF EMOTIONS
1. Emotion is defined as a complex, biological, physiological process or function concerned with somatic expression or
feeling. Emotion can be normal or abnormal. The purpose of normal emotion is to respond to various thoughts in
our souls by way of norms and standards.
2. Emotion is what is experienced as distinguished from cognitive and volitional states of consciousness. The frame of
reference, memory center, viewpoint, norms and standards, and doctrine exist in the right lobe only. None of these
exist in the emotions that are designed to respond to thoughts that emanate from them.
3. Emotions can respond to thoughts, but emotions can also function without thoughts. When emotions function
without thoughts, it is abnormal emotional activity called emotional instability. It comes and goes with extreme
rapidity.
4. Emotions contain no thinking, therefore they are not adequate guides for motives, decisions, and actions of the
believer.
LESSON # 74 (12-7-04)
5. Normal emotional experience results in subordinating the emotion to the intellect. Abnormal emotional experience
results in the soul subordinating the intellect to the emotion, or the emotion bypassing the norms and standards.
6. Positive response to the heart produces the spectrum of happiness in the emotions from tranquility to ecstatics.
Happiness is there because of doctrine. But ho do you know its there? Emotions tell you, because of all of the
responses from the whole spectrum of emotions.
7. There is no divine power in emotions. The power is in thought, and that thought must be Bible doctrine. Emotion has
no spiritual connotation. Emotions are a stimuli for action, and therefore must be regarded as a form of human
energy.
a. Emotional stress, for example, causes people to act on impulse. The emotion of fear, also a sin, causes flight.
The emotion of disgust causes repulsion. The emotion of anger causes violence.
b. Instincts are reflex behavior based on emotion rather than thought. Emotion does not contain thought.
Therefore, emotion is physiological and not spiritual.
8. Emotion does not contain the ability to reason. It does not contain common sense. It does not contain vocabulary
as a tool for mental function. It has no doctrinal content.
Emotion is related to human power and influence, but never to divine power and the mystery doctrine of the church.
a. Such believers make a god of their emotions, Phil.3:18
b. Such believers’ emotional patterns distract them from the execution of the plan of God, Rom.16:17-18
c. Emotion hinders spiritual growth and application of Bible doctrine, 2 Cor.6:11-12.
d. Such believers’ unrestrained or uncontrolled emotional patterns are the basics for criminality, violence, hatred,
anger, total involvement in the arrogance complex, which means bitterness, vindictiveness, jealousy,
implacability, and self-pity.
9. Ignorance of Bible doctrine causes people to say things like, “You are not saved unless you feel saved; you are not
spiritual unless you feel spiritual. Under some conditions, the use of doctrine in recall or application often causes an
emotional response, and that is normal, but not necessary.
LESSON # 75 (12-14-04)
Phil.3:18-19 - For many believers keep walking [in the cosmic system], concerning whom I have
communicated to you many times and now communicate even through weeping, that they are the enemies
of the cross of Christ: whose destiny is destruction [sin unto death], whose god is the belly [emotions],
whose fame comes by means of their dishonor, who keep on thinking about earthly things [propaganda of
the cosmic system].
Rom.16:17 - I urge you, brethren, to be alert for those who are causing divisions and put apostasies
contrary to the doctrine which you have learned. For such believes do not obey our Lord Jesus Christ, but
their own appetites [emotions], serving themselves; and by their smooth and flattering speech [human
power], they deceive the right lobes of the stupid.
10. Emotions are under divine scrutiny.
Psa. 7:9 - For the righteous God tests the hearts and reins [emotions].
Psa. 26:2 - Test my reins [emotions] and my heart. Jer. 11:20, 17:10, 20:12
Rev. 2:23 - Futhermore, I will execute her followers by means of death, and so all the churches will know
that I am He who investigates the reins [emotions] and the heart, and I will administer punishment to each
one according to your activities.
a. Why does God test our emotions? First of all, we must know that we cannot “strap it on” God. You cannot
fool Him or hide anything from Him.
b. The verses above are anthropomorphic in nature. God does not have hot run a check on our emotions hot
determine the condition of our souls. He is omniscient; He always knows everything about us.
c. Knowing that God always knows whether our emotions are normal, abnormal, responding, or reacting motivates
us hot keep the command post of our souls under control.
d. It is reassuring hot know that God knows when our emotions are responding hot what we have learned about
Him. But it must be remembered, feelings are never the criterion for either salvation or spirituality.
e. Appreciation of Jesús Christ comes through perception of doctrine rather than emotional function. This
does not eliminate emotion, but puts emotion in its proper place. It must be understood that emotional
response to doctrine is not the filling of the Holy Spirit.
11. Scriptual Words for Emotions:
a. The "bowels," SPLAGCHNON, are used to designate the emotions. Gen.43:30; 1 Kg.3:26; Jer.4:19, 31:20;
Lam.1:20, 2:11; Phil.1:8; Phil.12,20.
b. The "belly," KOLIA, is designated as the emotion in Prov.13:25, 18:8, 26:22; Rom.16:17-18; Phil.3:19.
c. The "reins," NEPHROS, are used to designate the emotions. It is an old English word for the kidneys. The
Hebrew word KILJAH refers to the fat pads which cover the kidneys and adrenal glands. The adrenal glands
secrete the hormone epinephrine which is the fright, flight, or fight hormone. It increases blood to the muscles,
cardiac output and glucose to the muscles. It is stimulated by the emotions. Ps.139:13; Prov.23:16; Jer.12:12,
20:12
12.The filling of the Spirit is entirely separate from your emotions and must be separated from them in your thinking. It
has no spiritual connotation. Awareness of emotion is probably located in the thalamus, in conjunction with the
frontal lobes. Therefore, emotion is physiological, and not spiritual.
13.Emotion and ecstatics have no spiritual content in this dispensation. Therefore, how you feel is never the index of
your spiritual life or experience. Your emotional activity or ecstatics are not indicative of your spiritual activity or
advance in the Christian life.
LESSON # 76 (12-16-04)
14. In the Millennium, Christ will be present on earth and then there will be an emotional connotation to the filling of the Holy
Spirit, Joel 2:28-29.
15. Believers in the Millennium are universally indwelt with the Holy Spirit. Isa. 32:15, 44:3, Ezek. 11:19, 37:14, 39::29.
16. Biblical illustrations of emotions:
Gen.43:30 - And Joseph made haste; for his heart yearned over his brother: and he sought where to weep; and
he entered into his chamber, and wept there.
Because he loved his brother, Benjamin, so much, Joseph was responding emotionally to what was in his right lobe.
Sometimes you are not aware of the love in your heart until something triggers it in the memory center and elicits a
response in the emotions.
I Kings 3:26 - Then spoke the mother of the living child unto the king, for her heart yearned over her son…
Prov. 23:15-16 - My son, if your heart is wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. Yea, my reins [emotions]
shall rejoice, when your lips speak what is right .
Lam. 1:20 - Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I
have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.
Lam. 2:11- Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the
destruction of the daughter of my people . . .
The balance between emotions producing a happiness spectrum and emotions producing a misery spectrum is a fine line
in your soul which is determined by which way your emotions go. Do they respond to the doctrine in your soul, or do they
respond to your old sin nature?
16. Good emotion is spiritual response to life, whereas bad emotion is carnal reaction to life.
17. Words associated with good emotions : courage, confidence, honor, nobility, joy, happiness, contentment, peace of
mind, security, graciousness, courtesy, kindness, thoughtfulness, good manners, sympathy, compassion, sensitivity,
loyalty, well-being, and gentleness, relaxed, tranquil, comfortable, calm, serene, ecstatic, delighted, thrilled, and elated.
18. Words associated with bad emotions: fear, worry, hysteria, anxiety, panic, consternation, revenge, malice, hate,
vindictiveness, anger, jealousy, loathing, animosity, implacability, whining, sniveling, self-pity, guilt, anxiety, meanness,
agonizing, bitterness, antipathy, rancor, resentment, spite, cruelty, nastiness, envy and lust.
LESSON # 77 (12-21-04)
II Cor. 6:14
1. Stop becoming GINOMAI (v. pam unequally yoked [bound together] HETROZUGEO
(pt. pa; hetro = a different kind, zugeo = to couple, join, or yoke together, based on Deut. 22:10,
with unbelievers.
There are at least five areas where people can become unequally joined together: 1) marriage, 2) religion, 3) social
life, 4) business partnerships, 5) fraternities or organizations like the Masons.
2. This verse in no way forbids contact with unbelievers, but it does forbid relationships that would hinder the spiritual growth
of believers such as becoming too close to unbelievers.
1 Cor. 5:9-10 - I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; I did not at all mean with the
immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters; for then you would
have to go out of the world.
3. There are five questions posed to support the command not to be unequally yoked. One of the best ways to support
doctrines you profess is to follow them with questions. Example: Someone says that you must be a good person to go
to heaven. You respond by saying that the Bible teaches faith alone in Christ alone, and then you ask them, “Why did
Christ come to earth and go to the cross if we get into heaven by being good?”
4. What partnership has righteousness with unrighteousness? [question 1] This could be stated another way, “What
communion do believers have with unbelievers?” If you can’t talk about things that really matter, Bible doctrine, then
what you have is superficial.
5. What fellowship has light with darkness? [question 2] Light and darkness do not mix. Where there is light, there is
no darkness, and where there is darkness, there is no light. Believers are designed to be the light of the world, Mt. 5:14.
Actually, we reflect Christ’s light. He is the Light of the world, John 8:12 - When Jesus spoke again to the people, he
said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
II Cor. 6:15-16
2 Cor.6:15 - Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, [question 3] or what has a believer in common
with an unbeliever? [question 4]
1. harmony – SUMPHONESIS (sumfw, nhsij) n. nfs, agreement, harmony, common ground. This is where we
get the English word “symphony”.
2. Belial – worthlessness, recklessness, lawlessness. Not strictly a proper name, but used so by personification. Bel =
"without", and ya'al = "usefulness," i.e. good for nothing. "A man of Belial" is a worthless, lawless fellow (Deut.13:13;
Judg.19:22; 1 Sam.2:12). Nabal = fool, is called "man of Belial" (1 Sam.25:25.) In the New Testament "Beliar" is the
form in some of the oldest manuscripts (2 Cor.6:15). As Satan is opposed to God, Antichrist to Christ, so Belial
standing here in contrast to Christ, must denote all anti-Christian pollutions personified.
3. The believer’s favorite thing to talk about should be Bible doctrine because that is more important than anything
else. Typically, unbelievers shy away from talking about “religion”, therefore why would a believer want to socialize
with unbelievers?
2 Cor.6:16 - Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? [question 5] For we are the temple of the
living God just as God said, "I will dwell in them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they
shall be My people.
1 Cor.6:19-20 - Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom
you have from God, and you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify
God in your body.
4. The quote is from Lev.26:12. This prophecy was directed to believers in the millennium, but here it is used to apply
to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in believers during the Church Age, *Rom.8:9, I Cor.6:19-20, Gal.3:2.
LESSON # 78 (12-23-04)
DOCTRINE OF SEPARATION
A. Definition and Description.
1. Separation is the technique of switching from personal love to impersonal love when dealing with friends
or loved ones in the cosmic system.
2. It is a necessary application of doctrine by which one maintains the right priorities in life by disassociating
himself with anyone who becomes a hindrance to his spiritual momentum.
3. It has nothing to do with your feelings about another person.
a. Some people fail to separate when they should because they allow their strong feelings about the
other person to get in the way.
b. Others separate when they shouldn’t because they allow their animosity towards a person influence
their decision.
4. Separation is applied to both unbelievers and believers in the cosmic system who seek to influence the
believer in a negative way. Therefore, there must be separation from reversionistic loved ones (but it does
not have to be physical separation).
B. There are two categories of separation from people.
1. Mental separation.
a. In mental separation, there is one-way antagonism from those in the cosmic system toward you. Your
application of unconditional love protects you from becoming antagonistic toward them..
b. In the context of Mt 10:34-38, certain loved ones or friends become involved in the cosmic system.
You have the alternatives to allow your relationship with them take priority over your relationship with
Lord, or you can take up your cross (mental separation) and follow the Lord.
c. Their influence can be so great on the believer that he is tempted by their love to join them in the
cosmic system.
d. To avoid this negative influence, the believer must maintain the right priorities by mental separation,
switching from personal love to unconditional love.
e. Mental separation emphasizes the integrity, honor and doctrinal application of the believer residing
inside the divine domain.
f. Unconditional love is immune to those who are residing in the cosmic system, who are reversionistic
and antagonistic to doctrine.
g. It functions on its own integrity and perpetuates its own objectivity from the intake of doctrine.
h. It emphasizes personal love for God while setting aside the functions of personal love for friends or
loved ones.
i. Mental separation, in contrast to physical separation, is therefore a separation which avoids maligning,
judging, hating, criticizing, seeking revenge, hurting those with whom you've been intimate in the past.
j. Mental separation avoids destruction of the spiritual life.
2. Physical separation.
a. There are some cases where switching from personal love to unconditional love is not enough. For
example, getting false information in the local church. You must leave physically as well as under the
principle of unconditional love. Another example, when a woman is used as a punching bag by her
husband, she should leave.
b. When some form of tyranny says, "No you cannot go to church," then physical separation is
demanded.
c. Physical separation means to avoid any personal contact with a person under nearly any
circumstances. You regard that person as dead.
d. This means severance of all relation with that person of any kind.
e. Physical separation is sometimes needed to maintain one's priorities and to use one's volition to keep
his spiritual momentum moving forward.
C. The Function of Separation.
1. You may avoid people or hate people due to mental attitude sins (MAS) but you
are not practicing Biblical separation as taught by the Word of God.
LESSON # 79 (12-28-04)
2. True separation is impossible without the filling of the Holy Spirit, doctrine in the soul, and the consistent
intake of Bible doctrine.
3. 2 Tim 3:5, "They [believers and unbelievers in the cosmic system] hold to external forms of godliness,
but have renounced the power of that same godliness; you also be turning yourself away from
these men."
4. 2 Thes 3:6, "Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you
separate from every believer who leads an undisciplined life [wrong priorities], that is not according
to the tradition you have received from us."
5. 2 Thes 3:14, "If anyone does not obey our doctrinal teaching in this epistle, take special note of
that person and do not associate with him, so that he may be put to shame."
6. Rom 16:17-18, "Turn away from them" is physical separation from troublemakers.
D. Discernment in separation
1. When to separate and when not to. I Cor. 5: 9-1 3
2. Rom 12:1-3. If you fail in the matter of separation, you will think about self in terms of arrogance.
3. Separation is thinking about yourself in relation to others apart from arrogance.
4 The first prerequisite for proper separation is a good sense of humor. By switching from personal love to
unconditional love you must let go of your illusions about people you have loved.
E. Separation demands understanding permanent priorities, 1 Jn 2:15-17. Your permanent priority is your daily
function inside the divine domain, while avoiding at all costs any prolonged stay in the cosmic system.
F. Separation from unbelievers inside the cosmic system is taught in 2 Cor.6:14-17. Every time you hook up with
something or someone in the cosmic system, you are in partnership with the cosmic system. This is why you are
given the order: "Therefore come out from among them."
G. Separation is important in social life, Jer.15:16-17; 1 Pet.4:3-4, Eph.5: 6-12
1. The believer is to separate from a superficial social life, the fun crowd. The party crowd always has a false
scale of values. They emphasize the details of life and non-essentials as most important.
2. The believer is to separate from the "fast crowd." There comes a time when the believer grows spiritually,
and his first function is to separate from the crowd that use to lead him in the wrong direction.
H. Separation from those who embrace false doctrines. 2 Jn.1: 7-10
I. The believer is to separate from violence and criminal activity, Prov.1:10-19
1. Separation from carnal believers - I Cor. 5:10-11
2. Separation from believers who are indifferent to or reject Bible doctrine - II Thes. 3:6, 14 & 15
3. Separation from believers who make their emotions the criterion for life - Rom. 16:17-18
4. Separation from the fast crowd - I Peter 4:4, Prov. 1:10-19
5. Separation from human viewpoint thinking - Rom. 12:1-2
6. Separation from unbelievers where doctrine is compromised - II Cor. 6:14, Heb. 13:13
7. Separation from religion and apostasy - II Cor. 6:17, II Tim. 3:5, II John 1:7-10
LESSON # 80 (12-30-04)
BACK TO 2 COR. 6:16
5. There are people today who are deceived into thinking that God is pleased when they bow down to idols and pray to
them. Leviticus 26:1 KJV Ye shall make you no idols, nor graven image, neither rear you up standing image,
neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.
[This is the second Commandment ]
6. You will notice that the quote from Lev. 26:12 includes the phrase, and walk among them. Christ does not actually
walk among us in the Church Age, but He will walk among believers in the Millennium. Christ indwells Church Age
believers, but He does not walk among us, John 14:19-20, 17:22-26, 2 Cor 13:5, Col. 1:25-29, I John 3:23-24.
7. Lev. 26:11-12 is quoted in 2 Cor. 6:16 but Paul makes a subtle change in the translation so that it would apply to the
indwelling of Christ in Church Age believers.
a. Lev. 26:12 says, “I will walk among yo,u" Heb. HALAK, to literally walk, to traverse; TAWEK, among, in the midst of
There is no way that indwelling could be implied here.
b. Paul did not use the normal Greek word for HALAK which would be PERIPATEO, instead he used ENOIKEO
v. fai This word means to indwell so it is translated “I will dwell in them”. It refers to the indwelling of Christ
in Church Age believers. This same word is used in Rom. 8:11 for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. If the word means
to indwell in Rom. 8:11 then it follows logically that it means the same thing in 2 Cor. 6:16.
8. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE INDWELLING OF THE H.S. AND THE INDWELLING OF CHRIST.
a. The Holy Spirit is given, not for us to have crazy or weird experiences, but to glorify Christ, I Cor. 6:19.
b. Since Jesus Christ already came in the flesh during the First Advent, there are no longer any theophanies or
sacred buildings. Unlike the age of the Jews, there are no sacred man-made buildings in the C.A.
1. The Tabernacle in the desert was constructed by the Israelites according to the specifications laid out by
the Lord Himself because it represented the whole concept of Christology and Soteriology, Ex. 25, 33, 40;
Lev. 9:23; Num.16:42..
2. The Temple of Solomon was a more permanent structure, 1 Kg. 8; 2 Chron. 5; Isa 37:1.6.
3. The Temple of Zerubbabel was the Temple that was eventually built after the Jews returned to the land from their
Babylonian captivity, Hag. 2, Zech. 2:5.
4. There will be a temple in Jerusalem during the Tribulation, but it will be a center for apostasy, Matt..25:15, Rev.
11:1.
5. The millennial Temple is related to the restoration of Israel as a client nation to God during the Mil., Ezek. 40:47.
6. There will be no need for a Temple or sacred building in the eternal state because Jesus Christ Himself will be the
Shekinah Light of the New Jerusalem, Rev.21:22-24a.
c. The sacred buildings have been replaced by the many bodies of C.A. believers. The body of every believer is
indwelt by the H.S. in order to provide a temple for the indwelling of Christ.
LESSON # 81 (1-4-05)
DOCTRINE OF THE SHEKINAH
A Jesus Christ, the Shekinah Glory of Israel, lived in the Holy of Holies, Ex.25:21-22;
Lev.26:11-12; Ps. 91:1; Heb.9:5. His presence was manifest by a cloud above the tabernacle
by day and a pillar of fire by night, so that the Jews could always tell when Jesus Christ was
present in the tabernacle.
1. The word “Shekinah” is not found in the Bible. It is found repeatedly in the Mishnah and
Talmud
referring to the visible manifestation of the glory of the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ.
2. “Shekinah” is derived from the Hebrew noun SHAKAN which means to dwell. It was
used to express the presence of the invisible God in Israel.
3. Since Jesus Christ as the God of Israel was invisible to the Jews, He was understood
through the
various categories of doctrinal teaching presented in the O.T.
a. articles of sacred furniture
b. feast days and holy days
c. rituals of the priests
d. the priests uniforms
4. There are three categories of manifestations of Jesus Christ during the dispensation of Israel.
1. Theophanies appeared to Old Testament believers.
2. During the First Advent, Jesus Christ became flesh and “tabernacled among us,"
according to Jn.1:14, for thirty-three years.
3. Christophanies were the manifestations of Jesus Christ in resurrection body before His
ascension.
5. The Shekinah Glory, relates only to theophanies. There are two categories of theophanies as
appearances of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. The examples are not exhaustive.
(1) Animate.
(a) As the angel of the Lord, Jehovah.
(b) As a man in human form, He visited Abraham and wrestled with Jacob.
(2) Inanimate.
(a) The cloud and glory of the Lord, Ex 40:34-38.
(b) A pillar of cloud at the entrance to the Tabernacle, a different kind of cloud,
Ex.33:9.
(c) A pillar of fire.
(d) The burning bush.
6. The title, Shekinah, refers to the invisible presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy of
Holies, enthroned on the mercy seat between the cherubs, Ex 25:21-22, and the cloud over
the tabernacle and sometimes in the tabernacle.
Psalm 99:1 The LORD reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the
cherubim, let the earth shake.
Isaiah 37:16 "O LORD of hosts [armies], God of Israel, enthroned between the
cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven
and earth.
7. "Glory" is the Hebrew Biblical word KABODH, used for the visible manifestations of
Jesus Christ as a theophany Ex.16:7,10; Lev 9:23; Num.14:10, 16:19, 42, 20:6 So Jesus
Christ, the person, the Shekinah part, was invisible. Jesus Christ, the theophany, was
visible at various times to various groups in Israel.
8. If the indwelling of Christ in the sacred buildings of Israel is unique and without precedent
in human history, how much more is the indwelling of Christ in the body of every believer
unique and without precedent!
B. Scripture.
1. E.x 40:35, "And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle because the cloud had settled
on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle."
2. Ex.16:10, "And behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud."
3. Num.16:42, "And behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared."
4. Heb.9:5, "And above the ark of the covenant, the cherubs of glory overshadowing the
mercy seat."
5. Isa.37:16, "O Lord of the Armies, O God of Israel, who sits between the cherubs, You
alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made the heavens and the
earth."
6. Ps.99:1, "The Lord rules. He sits between the cherubs."
7. Rom.9:4, "Who are the Israelites, to whom is the adoption, and the glory, and the
covenants."
8. Only the high priest was permitted to enter the holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement to offer
blood. He sprinkled the blood over the mercy seat, which contained sin, as the atonement for
man's sin.The holiness of God the Father was satisfied with the blood of Christ--His sacrifice on
the Cross. The Shekinah Glory emphasized the true heritage of Israel in regeneration.
9. The Shekinah Glory emphasized the fact that God guaranteed temporal blessings while
Israel was on earth and eternal blessings for believers afterwards. The Shekinah Glory
dwelt between the Cherubs as a guarantee of Israel's blessings as a client nation toGod. For
example, the ShekinahGlory guaranteed that Abraham would have an eternal city, the new
Jerusalem, suspended above the earth.
LESSON # 82 (1-6-05)
C. The Shekinah Glory is the sign of great blessing to Israel.
1. In Isa 7:14, "Immanuel" means "God with us."
2. John 1:14, "And the word became flesh and He tabernacled among us."
3. In the flesh, Jesus Christ lived in the prototype divine domain and not in the tabernacle.
"We observed His glory, the glory [the Shekinah Glory] of the unique One from the
Father." God the Father sent the Shekinah Glory to men to guarantee that escrow blessings
were on deposit for those who accepted Him as Savior.
D. The change of residence of the Shekinah Glory established a transition between the First
Advent and the dispensation of the Church.
1. In the Church Age, there is a new way of life because we are new creatures “in Christ”.
2. In the Old Testament, it was all ritual. That's why the Shekinah Glory dwelt between the
cherubs as a part of the ritual.
3. This is why we are new creatures in Christ.
a. We have the indwelling of Christ as the guarantee that our escrow blessings for time
are available to us now.
b. 2 Cor 3:17-18, "Now the Lord is the Spirit [deity of the Holy Spirit], and where the
Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Now we all with an unveiled face [filling of the
Holy Spirit] looking into a mirror [Bible doctrine] to produce a reflection [the
manifestation of the Shekinah Glory who indwells us], namely the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image [the plan of God transforms the believer
into reflected glory of our Lord Jesus Christ as the Shekinah Glory, so that we fulfill the
mandate of Eph 5:1 "keep on becoming imitators of Christ"] from glory to glory [from
the humanity of Christ living in the prototype divine domain to the momentum of the
believer in the operational type divine domain; this also means from the glory of the
escrow blessing guaranteed by the indwelling of Christ to the glory of escrow blessing in
eternity] as it were from the Spirit of the Lord."
RESUMING II COR.6:16 notes:
d. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is functional whereas the indwelling of Christ has to do with fellowship. The Holy
Spirit is given to C.A. believers so that they will be able to use His power to execute God’s plan in their lives, Acts1:8.
The indwelling of Jesus Christ demands that we give number one priority to our relationship with God over our
relationship with people because Christ indwelling our bodies is much closer to us than any person could be, no
matter what the relationship with them may be.
e. As long as you emphasize relationship and fellowship with people over relationship and fellowship with God, you
can never attain spiritual adulthood. Your life will be characterized by self-induced suffering and three stages of
divine discipline.
f. The Jews profited from understanding that which they could not see. They could not see the Shekinah Glory dwelling
between the cherubs in the Holy of Holies, but they knew He was there by the presence of the cloud over the Taber –
nacle and therefore had assurance and security knowing that Christ would provide, protect, and guide them Ex. 40:34.
g. We also profit in the same way from knowing that the Shekinah glory indwells us even though He is not visible.
The indwelling of Christ as the Shekinah glory today is just as invisible as He was in the O.T., but His reflected
glory is seen in the Church Age believer who advances to spiritual maturity.
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed [METAMORPHOO
(v. ppm ] by the renewing of your mind. . .
h. Jesus Christ indwelling our bodies has been our status quo since salvation, but His being glorified in our bodies
is the ultimate experience of spiritual adulthood. The following phrases refer to the process of our being
experientially sanctified as we grow to spiritual maturity and not to the indwelling of Christ in our bodies.
1. “Christ being formed in our bodies” Gal. 4:19
2. “Christ being at home in our hearts” Eph. 3:17
3. “Christ being glorified in our bodies” Phil. 1:20

LESSON # 83 (1-11-05)
i. The indwelling of Christ is a sign of royalty and is for Church Age believers only. Jesus Christ is the King of kings and
Lord of lords; He is in us and we are in Him, therefore we are members of The Royal Family!
j. The indwelling of Christ is a guarantee of eternal security, I John 5:11-13. There is not one verse in the Bible that
says we are capable of losing the indwelling of Christ because it is one of the 40 things we receive at salvation that is
irrevocable.
k. We can’t see Christ indwelling our bodies now, but when we die, we will be face to face with Him, 2 Cor. 5:8,
because He leaves our body along with our soul and spirit and escorts us to heaven. This fulfills the principle stated
in Psa. 23:4 – Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for Thou art with me
l. Jesus Christ is ever on the job as He indwells our body as the depositary and escrow officer of our escrow blessings
which guarantees us that we are safe, secure and available.
9. THE INDWELLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE FILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ARE NOT THE SAME.
a. One is permanent and one is temporary. One is commanded, Eph. 5:18, and one is not. The Holy Spirit was not given
to O.T. believers because Christ had not yet come nor had He been glorified, John 7:39.
b. It is possible that O.T. believers did not have or need the indwelling of the Holy Spirit because they were not in
the intensified stage of the angelic conflict, but Church Age believers do need it because we are all targets now.
Once Christ was victorious in accomplishing atonement for man’s sins, Satan’s whole strategy had to change.
He no longer has just the line of the Messiah but a whole world full of believers to deal with who are “in Christ”
and indwelt by God the Holy Spirit.
c. Every believer, whether carnal or spiritual, is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Only believers who are filled with the
Holy Spirit are spiritual.
10. . . . and walk among them; and I will be their God and they shall be My People.
a. walk among them EMPERIPATEO (v. fai, to walk among physically or to be occupied
with.Christ will walk among us physically some day.
b. He can walk among us now in a figurative sense when we are occupied with Him, Rev. 3:20, Rom. 6:8.
c. I will be their God - Jesus Christ can be your Savior but not considered to be your God.
d. We Gentiles or Church Age believers, will be His people. This prophecy spoke of the Millinnium as it related to
the Jews, but now, it relates to us in the Church Age.
LESSON # 84 (1-13-05)
II Cor. 6:17
1. Therefore, come out from their midst - EXERCHOMAI (v. aam, to get out , escape, get away,
to disappear from. This is a command to separate from religion, legalism, and anything that is Satanically influenced
or that is displeasing to God.
2. and be separate – APHORIZO (v. apm, to separate, to be set apart. We are not only to put distance
between ourselves and others who would bring us down spiritually, but we are to be separate or to be different from
them. The passive voice here is very important.
a. The first command is in the active voice, meaning that it is within our power to carry out this command.
b. But we do not have the power to obey the second command, because the passive voice means that we must
receive the power to obey this command to be set apart and to be different.
c. What is that power? _____________________
d. If we don’t receive it, we will not remain separate.
3. and do not touch what is unclean - Don’t have contact with that which is unacceptable to God. How does one
know what is acceptable to God and what isn’t?
4. and I will welcome you - EISDECHOMAI (v. fmi, to receive or to welcome. This phrase means
that God will embrace us as a father embraces a child who has obeyed him.
5. This is a quote from Isa. 52:11 where God commanded the Jews who were taken into Babylon to return home to
Jerusalem. Part of this quote is also found in Rev. 18:4 where God commands believers of the Tribulation to come
out of the ecumenical religious system which will be the future Babylon.
II Cor. 6:18
1. The exact location of this quote is not certain because there is no verse found that is its exact equivalent. Some
suggest that it might be from Isa.43:6 and Hos.1:10.
2. N.T. quotes:
a. They often quote a translation which does not strictly adhere to the original.
b. They often quote according to the sense rather than to the letter.
c. They often blend together different passages of Scripture.
d. Sometimes the N.T. quotes Scripture that is nowhere to be found but that is clearly taught in so many words.
3. God becomes our Father and we become His sons and daughters when we are born again, but the Bible also uses
these words to refer to those believers whose behavior matches their status. In this sense, there are conditions that
must be met in order to be a son indeed.
Romans 8:14 - For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
Revelation 21:7 - He who overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be his God
and he will be My son.
The condition for one to become a son or daughter of God in this sense in verse 17 means to come out from among their
midst and be separate. If a believer fails to be obedient, he is still God’s son but not in this special sense.
4. When we are functioning as HUIOS, adult sons and daughters, then we recognize that our Father provides
everything we need. We don’t need to be “hanging out” and “hooking up” with riffraff and like them, be seeking
fulfillment and satisfaction.
5. God remains the Father of believers who are disobedient and fail to function as adult sons as illustrated by the
parable of the prodigal son, Luke 15:20, but these believers receive divine discipline and miss out on having a
special relationship with God.
