Part II: General Education Course Proposal Guidelines
In your Course Proposal below, please include:
1) Course title
2) Number of students the course will accommodate
3) ABSTRACT (300 words specifying the focus of the course and purpose of funding)
4) Syllabus, if existing. If you are modifying an existing course, please attach a syllabus for this
course. If you are proposing a new class, please provide a description of course materials.
5) Narrative explanation of how course fulfills the General Education requirements (2-4 pages):
a. Does the course link discipline-specific knowledge to larger issues and allow students to
make connections between their undergraduate education and the changing world they
will inhabit? If so, how?
b. Does the course allow students to make connections to other courses or disciplinary
knowledge? If so, how?
c. Does the course employ pedagogical strategies, as well as discipline-specific methods of
inquiry, that promote students’ critical abilities, such as writing, reading, critical and
creative thinking, inquiry based learning, quantitative? If so, how?
d. How does this course fit into the departmental plan for General Education?
