UNIT 16 Data Presentation Lesson 16.2 Line Graphs
CSEC Objective: illustrating numerical data with a line graph
Lessons Aims: After this lesson, the student should be able to:
construct and use line graphs to illustrate data.
Prerequisite Knowledge: Basic knowledge of graphs needed
Key Vocabulary: line graph
trends in data
Challenges: This is a straightforward lesson for all students.
Teaching Notes: Ensure that students recognise when to use line graph; that is, for numerical
data, particularly when the data has a trend over time.
Lesson Plan: Review homework
Introduction to line graphs DS 16.2 or ST 16.2, WE1
Exercises (interactively with class) ST 16.2, Q1
Exercises ST 16.2, Q2 or Q3
Review answers (students show their graphs to class)
Exercises ST 16.2, Q4
Activity (interactively with class) Activity 16.1
Closing activity ST 16.2, Q6
Homework ST 16.2, Q5 and RT, Q4
Relevant CSEC Questions: RT Q4
Glossary of terms: Line graphs – used to illustrate trends in data.
For example, to illustrate the numbers of cars sold per year:
No. of cars sold 6
