PROTECTION OF HUMAN RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS. Currently, in order to be certified by
Brown University as having successfully completed the program, appropriate personnel must
demonstrate an adequate level of knowledge through an examination process, which includes either
reading the manual entitled Protecting Study Volunteers in Research (by C. McGuire Dunn, M.D. and
G. Chadwick, Pharm.D., MPH, of the University of Rochester) and passing the exam included in the
manual, or successfully completing the Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI), and interactive
web-based educational program.
