                            Summer School - Teacher for America
                            Faculty Advisor Job Description – 2012
 JOB GOAL: To provide a comprehensive training to Teach For America corps members so that
            they can provide targeted instruction to students over the summer.

COMMITMENT:
         Faculty Advisors start official responsibilities on Thursday, June 14th and continue through
           Friday, July 13th, 2012.
         Faculty advisors will work between 5.5 hours and 7.5 hours per day.
         See the calendar at the end of this document for a more detailed schedule.

REQUIREMENTS:
         All persons selected to be Faculty Advisors must attend training on Wednesday, May 30 &
           Thursday, May 31 at Delta State University from 9:00 – 3:30 both days.
         The application MUST be fully complete to be considered for review.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
          CERTIFICATION/EMPLOYMENT:
               o Bachelor’s Degree required.
               o Valid Mississippi certification.
               o Highly Qualified status in a grade-level/subject desired.
               o Employed by the Sunflower County, Indianola or Drew School District for the
                  2010/2011 school year.

              EXPERIENCE:
                  o Three years of teaching experience desired.
                  o Demonstrated leadership both in and out of the classroom desired.
                  o Principals will be asked to endorse all candidates.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
            Directly support and supervise (through classroom observations, critical feedback, and
               lesson plan support) a minimum of four Teach For America teachers as they lead teach in a
               summer school setting.
            Mentor Teach For America teachers in managing all instructional activities designed to
               prepare students for success.
            Mentor Teach For America teachers in using data to analyze student achievement and
               develop individualized learning plans.
            Work collaboratively with corps members to administer pre/post assessments
            Participate in Teach for America Institute training model and in school meetings, etc.
            Serve as teacher of record for the classroom.
*Please note that faculty advisors are not leading student instruction in the summer (i.e. they are not
serving as classroom teachers). They are exclusively mentoring new teachers and will be trained to do
so.

                  Mrs. Judy Nelson, Federal Programs Director

COMPENSATION:
            $25.00/hr
