All beekeepers managing hives should be either a Registered or a Partner member to be covered by the BBKA insurance.
Brood Diseases Insurance (BDI) – Scheme A. Please be aware of the following conditions.
This covers specific equipment which has to be destroyed by an official Bee Disease Inspector. Classes 1* 2* and 3* automatically include cover for
up to 3 colonies each. Allowance should be made for any potential increase by nukes, swarms or swarm control when calculating the cover required..
Please note that though it can be topped up at any time, all colonies managed must be covered at the time of the inspection or the insurance will be
invalid. All payments made after 31st March are subject to a 40-day waiting period, so top-up insurance made then could render your insurance
invalid under this condition. Compensation rates are itemised on your Certificate.
All colonies on a shared apiary site must also be covered, so each beekeeper should be a member of an association and cover all of their own colonies.
If not, any insurance paid will be invalid. Please ask for clarification if required.
Additional premiums are as follows:
Total colonies to cover Additional premium
Up to 3 - included in each beekeeper’s subscription FOC - (6 colonies in the case of Full and Partner members)
Up to 5 – for sole beekeepers only 2.00 – i.e. 2 additional colonies
10 5.25
15 7.75
20 9.50
25 11.10
Each additional colony - up to 39 max .50 (Above this you need to be insured under Scheme B.)
E-mail addresses are used for circulating Federation newsletters, beekeeping news and communications from your committee
members. They will not be shared with any other member unless necessary. However, we will also register your details with the
National Bee Unit for the purposes of inviting you to register your apiary site and to contact you on beekeeping issues, which would
only be to your benefit.
