THE BITE DEPARTMENT
The BITE department was formed in September 2010, as an amalgamation of the ICT and
Business departments. New leadership has been appointed. BITE houses thirteen members
of staff, one of whom is the Head of Department, one Deputy Head for Business (KS4) and
another Deputy Head for ICT (KS4). It is line-managed by the Director of Business and
The subject is taught across the Academy. At KS3 year 7 & 8 students are following a new
curriculum underpinned by ICT and Enterprise skills that will culimate in learners being
awarded the in-house BITE Certificate. Currently, all year 9 students are entered for NCFE
Level 2 Certificate in Enterprise Skills (equivilant to GCSE grade B).
At KS4, ICT is a core subject where the legacy course, OCR Nationals Level 2 Award is being
phased out. It will be replaced with BTEC Level 2 in IT (Certificate). Business is offered as an
option where students study BTEC Level 2 in Business (Certificate - Diploma). There are
plans to introduce GCSE ICT and Business Studies with the Edexcel Examination Board from
At KS5, ICT and Business legacy courses are being phased out. A new BTEC Level 3 in
Business and IT Pathway with Accounting will be offered from September 2011. Accounting
will be taught by the Mathematics Department.
KS3 and KS4 classes all receive one lesson of BITE per week. The use of Fronter as a VLE
is under development.
There are eleven fully equipped suites and six ICT technicians across the two sites. They
maintenance/upgrade the current systems and the support of the staff in the teaching and
delivery of BITE.
