QUALIFICATIONS &
ESENTIAL CRITERIA
                                  Current registration with the Nurses & Midwives
                                   Board NSW
                                  Tertiary qualifications in education or working
                                   towards same
                                  Training & Assessment (TAA) qualification or
                                   Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment
                                   or current enrolled in the program
                                  Demonstrated experience in instructional design,
                                   curriculum development, implementation and
                                   evaluation
                                  Demonstrated excellent written & verbal
                                   communication skills
                                  Demonstrated skills in the use of Microsoft Office
                                   applications
                                  Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills
DESIRABLE
                                  Post Graduate Qualification in clinical specialty
                                  Experience in the development of multi media
                                   program design
                                  Current Drivers Licence

HOURS OF DUTY:                     38 hours per week

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:             Nursing is a physically demanding job; it requires
                                   abilities, which relate directly to manual handling
                                   tasks associated with direct patient care or the
                                   conduct of education sessions.        This involves
                                   manual handling, frequent twisting, stretching,
                                   bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, lifting &
                                   lowering.

Position Description
ACCOUNTABILITY

1.       To patients, their family/support groups, the community, students and staff
         for the:
        delivery of high standard learner centred education programs
        presentation of a positive image to the public by conducting all dealings in a
         courteous, efficient and customer focussed manner.

2.       To self, colleagues, nursing division and the nursing profession for:
        professional standards of practice
        practice according to the philosophy and aims of the nursing service.

3.       To Sydney West Area Health Service for:
        practice according to the philosophy, policies and procedures of Sydney West

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION

        To work collaboratively with relevant members of the interdisciplinary team to
         design, implement and evaluate flexible and dynamic curricula for students and
         staff

        To utilize research to shape curriculum and advance the science of nursing &
         midwifery professional development and practice

        To maintain and promote a professional standard evidenced by ethical nursing or
         midwifery practice, adherence to the policies and standards of the Nursing &
         Midwifery Service, Sydney West Area Health Service and the appropriate
         legislation and statutory regulations.

Position Description
       actively engages in research, professional writing and conference presentations

EDUCATIONAL

   facilitates the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum
    incorporating professional standards, attitudes and values that reflect contemporary
    nursing / midwifery practice

   develops, monitors and evaluates course performance indicators

   uses appropriate information technologies in supporting the teaching-learning
    process

   establishes and fosters collaborative relationships with key stakeholders in the
    professional development process

   incorporates evidence based practice in nursing / midwifery and teaching

   monitors progress and provides feedback to learners regarding professional
    development achievements or needs

   engages in critical thinking and reflective practice to improve teaching, learning and
    nursing practice outcomes

   assists learners to develop the ability to engage in thoughtful and constructive self
    and peer assessment

   actively reviews own professional practice, identifies knowledge, skills and attitudes
    requiring further development and implements own professional development plan.

Position Description
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Co-ordinate the Trainee Enrolled Nursing (TEN) Program in conjunction with the
   TEN Co-ordinator Area Clinical Education. This will include

       Ensuring compliance with TEN Program requirements including end of
        placement reports and completion of competencies.
       Maintain and implement assessment requirements for TEN program.
       Facilitating appropriate allocations of Trainee Enrolled Nurses within the program
        and ensuring allocations of rotations to the Nursing Unit Managers and Trainee
        Enrolled Nurses, in timely manner.
       Liaison with NUM’s to support performance management issues amongst the
        Trainee Enrolled Nurse population.
       Act as a resource and support for ward based educators as required for
        performance management and education plan development for TEN Program
        Nurses.
       Promotion of the program.
       Participation in the recruitment and selection of TEN Program Candidates.
        Participation in the Area TEN Educational Committee.
       Liaison with TAFE for program assessment and implementation.
       Co-ordinate the direction of Westmead Clinical Nurse Educators within the TEN
        Program.

2. Co-ordination of the Hospital Orientation for all nursing staff across Westmead
   Hospital, including:

        Plan, implement, co ordinate and evaluate the Nursing specific components of
         orientation, including manual handling.
        Participate in future AREA planning /changes to the Orientation Program.
        Co-ordination distribution of Orientation requirements to NUMs and Ward based
         clinical Nurse Educators of Westmead Hospital.

        Assist in the OH&S Risk Management process, by being actively involved in the
         identification, assessment and control of hazards and associated risks in the
         workplace.

        Assist managers in the establishing and monitoring OH&S Consultation in the
         workplace.
