Thank you for your interest in applying for a position with the Mobile County Public School System. Please read the following information
concerning the application process:

        APPLICATION – Go to www.alsde.edu/teachinalabama to complete the on-line application. On the Where do you want to work?
         page, click “Deselect All.” Then click on the “+” located next to the Alabama State Department of Education check box. Click the
         box next to District 1 and click “+” next to the District 1 box. Then check the box for Mobile County.

        RESPONSE TO APPLICATION – You will receive a response from Alabama State Department of Education thanking you for
         submitting your electronic application. If your application is incomplete, you will be notified by the State to complete those required
         fields. Once you have a completed application, and have posted it for review by our county, you will also receive an email from our
         department advising of subsequent procedures

        VACANCIES – All vacancies will be posted on the State’s Job Board as well as our web site at www.mcpss.com.

        REFERENCE FORMS –You will need to have at least three (3) reference forms completed and on file in Human Resources.
         Please refer to the Certified Applicant Information Checklist to see who should complete the reference forms. Should you need
         additional forms, you can download the form from our website at www.mcpss.com. You should then click on Human Resources,
         click on Forms, and then click on Reference Form for Certified Applicant to download it. We will not accept completed reference
         forms directly from you and reserve the right to contact persons who completed your reference forms as well as those who were
         listed as past or present employers, supervisors, etc.

         ELECTRONIC REFERENCING – When completing your on-line application there is an option that will automatically send your
         reference a request to complete. If you select this option, you must check “Yes” and list their email address in the appropriate box.
         References can be a combination of both paper forms mentioned above and electronic. Please refer to the Certified Applicant
         Information Checklist to see who should complete your request.

        TRANSCRIPT(S) – Unofficial transcripts may be used for your interview in Human Resources. Official transcripts will be
         required before your name will be submitted to the Board; otherwise, you will be paid as a substitute. If you receive substitute pay
         due to an incomplete file, teacher pay will not be retroactive upon completion of the file. Official transcripts from all colleges and
         universities must be mailed directly by the college or university to Human Resources. All degrees should be posted on transcript(s).
         You can attach the unofficial copies of your transcripts to the on-line application.

        INTERVIEW IN HUMAN RESOURCES – Refer to the Certified Applicant Information Checklist. Once all of the required
         information is on file, please contact the Teacher Applicant Clerk at 251-221-4515 to schedule an interview with a Personnel
         Administrator.

         Click on Human Resources; then click on forms and select the entire packet or specific forms.

                TO: TEACHER APPLICANTS WHO DID NOT COMPLETE A TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Thank you for your interest in applying for a teaching position with the Mobile County Public School System. Mobile County is fully
committed to staffing all schools with highly qualified teachers; therefore, applications are not being accepted for non-certified applicants
in teaching fields of Social Studies/History/Psychology, PE, and Elementary Education. In core critical needs areas in which there are no
applicants who are fully state certified, Mobile County will consider applicants who are eligible to apply for a certificate through alternative
routes. To be considered for teaching positions in critical needs areas such as mathematics, science, and special education, you must
meet the following requirements:
      Hold at least a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited senior institution
      Minimum of 2.5000 GPA
      Must be eligible for Alternative Baccalaureate-Level Certificate or Special Alternative Certificate
          Alternative Baccalaureate-Level Certificate
                   o At least 32 semester hours (19 of which must be upper-division level) in the field certification is sought – or –
                   o Passing Praxis Score in the content area – or -
                   o Verify an earned bachelor’s or higher degree with a non-education major in the academic area
          Special Alternative Certificate in Teaching Field
                   o Must be admitted to the Alternative Fifth-Year Program in the teaching field
                   o Must submit a Planned Program for Certification in the teaching field
                   o Special Education applicants must have 12 semester hours in each of the following: English Language Arts, Social
                        Science, Mathematics, and General Science
                   o Applicants enrolling in the Special Alternative Master’s Program at USA must have passing scores on the basic skills
                        assessment (You may register for the required basic skills assessments online at www.act.org/alabamapttp.)
      Proof of registration for the regional assessments of the Alabama Prospective Teacher Testing Program (You may register for the
         required basic skills assessment (reading, writing, and math) online at www.act.org/alabamapttp. You may register for the
         appropriate Praxis II subject assessments online at www.ets.org/praxis.)
      Must meet any additional local/state requirements

Experience Credit is given as follows:
1. The teacher shall be responsible for furnishing proof to establish experience credit. Forms shall be
   furnished by the Division of Human Resources.

2.   Credit shall be given only for satisfactory full-time public school teaching experience in-field for which full
     pay was received and for which a valid certificate was held by the applicant.

3.   Credit shall not be given for less than a full semester’s teaching. Fractional parts of a semester shall not be
     added to give a semester’s credit.

                                        BENEFITS FOR FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES

All full-time employees of the Mobile County Public School System will receive the following annual benefits:

SICK LEAVE:               1 Day per month or equivalent

SICK LEAVE BANK:          All employees are eligible to participate.

PERSONAL LEAVE:           2 Days per year unless:
                                  - Starting work after December 31 – Employee entitled to 1 personal day for school year;
                                  - Starting work after March 31 – Employee entitled to 0 personal days for school year.

OTHER LEAVES:             Maternity leave, professional leave, military leave, emergency leave, Family Medical leave
                          and/or legal leave will be granted to employees as circumstances merit.

ANNUAL LEAVE FOR 12 MONTH (260 Day) EMPLOYEES HIRED ON OR AFTER JULY 1, 1999:

                                                      5 Days per school year with 11 months of service or less;
(Service is defined as service in the                10 Days per school year with 12-119 months of service;
Mobile County Public School System)                  15 Days per school year with 120-239 months of service;
                                                     20 Days per school year with 240 + months of service.

HEALTH INSURANCE: Employees may choose between the following health insurance plans:
                  - PEEHIP - (Blue Cross/Blue Shield);
                  - HMO’s - (Health Spring of AL, Viva);
                  - In addition, four supplemental plans are available:
                  - Dental - Hospital Indemnity - Cancer - Vision

LIFE INSURANCE:           - $ 8,000 Free Life Insurance plan from MCPSS
                          - $ 15,000 Free Life Insurance plan from the Teacher’s Retirement
                              Systems of Alabama (must be in pay status to be eligible).

RETIREMENT:               All employees of the MCPSS will have 5% of their wages deducted each
                          month and deposited into the Teacher’s Retirement System:
                          BENEFITS:        - Vested after 10 years of service;
                                           - Retirement at age 60 with 10-24 years of service;
                                           - Retirement at any age after 25 years of service.

                          CREDIT FOR MILITARY SERVICE :
                                A member has one year from the date he/she enrolled in the TRS to
                                make a lump sum payment in order to gain credit for up to four years of
                                eligible military service. Weekend service and summer camp service
                                with the National Guard and the Reserves are not eligible for creditable
