IMPORTANT UPCOMING EVENTS
APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR RCPSC SPRING 2009 EXAMINATION
This is a reminder that the applications for the Spring 2009
Examinations with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of
Canada are due on April 30th, 2008. Please be advised that there is a
penalty fee for any late applications.
REGISTRATION
Please be aware that the postgraduate medical education office will
be opening their online registration on June 1st, 2008. All new and
returning residents will be receiving an orientation package in the
mail in the beginning of May, which will include important information,
as well as supply residents with a to do list for the registration
period.
It is crucial that all residents supply the postgrad office with any
updated addresses, in order to ensure that all important
correspondence will be received.
CHIEF & SENIOR RESIDENT WORKSHOP
Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Located in the
Elspeth Baugh Fireside Room, Ban Righ Hall
All Chief and Senior Residents for 2008-2009 will be invited to
attend this one-day workshop, featuring a variety of speakers and
sessions, designed to provide important information about their new
role.

CERTIFICATE CEREMONY 2008
Monday, June 23rd, 2008. Located at Wallace Hall, with a reception
to follow at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre
This is a friendly reminder of the 2008 Certificate Ceremony hosted
by the Postgraduate Medical Education Office, for all residents who
complete their residency training on or before June 30th, 2008.
Formal Invitations will be sent out within the next month.
ELEVENTH ANNUAL MEETING FOR HEALTH SCIENCES RESEARCH
TRAINEES
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008. Located in the Biosciences Atrium
This all-day meeting has been organized in order to provide a forum
for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research project
students, medical students, and clinical residents of the Faculty
of Health Sciences and related schools/Faculties at Queen’s
University to discuss their recent research findings. Individuals
interested in presenting should submit their abstract(s). All
presentations will be made by trainees only. There will be a limited
number of oral presentations. Each department or research group
is asked to coordinate abstract submissions and nominate a
maximum of 3 abstracts for potential oral presentations.
Abstracts must be submitted via e-mail to mm9@queensu.ca as an
attachment in MS Word format, including a title, list of authors
(underline the presenting author), department where the work was
carried out, and supporting agency (where appropriate) at the end
of the abstract. Deadline for receipt of abstracts is Wednesday,
April 30th, 2008.

CMAJ EDITORIAL FELLOWSHIP
The CMAJ Editorial Fellowship provides an exciting opportunity
for physicians to discover the inner workings of a leading
medical journal. This well established full-time position is for
either individuals who have just completed their medical training
and residency, as well as clinical epidemiology training, or for
individuals further along in their careers who would like to
spend a sabbatical year working on the journal.

UPCOMING AWARDS/SCHOLARSHIPS
Beatrice and Harold Cohen Prize in Medical Ethics

and behaviours of the highest ethical standards during his/her

Callum Dagnone Memorial Prize in Pediatrics
This prize was established to provide financial recognition to one
resident each year within the department of pediatrics, who
demonstrates the highest standard in clinical care, compassion and
interpersonal communication as they relate to the practice of
Hematology-Oncology. The Director of Hematology-Oncology and
the Pediatrics residency Program Director will make the selection
by May 15, 2008. The value of the prize is $500.00.
PSI Resident Research Award
Physicians Services Incorporated sponsors these research awards
each year to encourage scholarly enquiry in residency programs.
Five awards of $2000.00 each are available at Queen’s University.
Research projects must be submitted to the Postgraduate Medical
Education Office by May 24, 2008.
