                                   International Ballet Competition

                                                                       …dedicated to Sergei Prokofyev
                                                                       and 120 anniversary of his birth
       Place: The Donetsk National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Anatoly
Soloviyanenko.
       Time: March 27 – April 2. 2011.

                                         REGULATIONS
       The VII Serge Lifar International Ballet Competition will take place at The Donetsk National
Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Anatoly Soloviyanenko in Donetsk from March 27 to April
2, 2011.

       The Competition is held in two nominations:
       a)      ‘Ballet dancers’ (couples and soloists) in three age groups,
       b)      ‘Choreographers’.
       The Competition is open to professional ballet dancers and choreographers as well as students of
conservatories, Dance Academies or ballet schools from all countries.
       The Competition shall be judged by Jury which will include well-famous ballet art figures.
       Head of Jury – USSR National Artist, President of International Choreography Workers Union,
Professor Yury Grigorovich.

                  REGULATIONS FOR BALLET DANCERS

1. APPLICATION AND REGISTRATION
        1.1. The Competition is held in three age categories:
‘Petit Serge Lifar’ (for boys and girls);
‘Junior’ (for young boys and girls);
‘Senior’ (for men and women).
        Group ‘Petit Serge Lifar’ is for boys and girls aged 12 to 14 (by February 28, 2011).
        Group ‘Junior’ is for boys and girls aged 15 to 17 (by February 28, 2011).
        Group ‘Senior’ is for participants aged 18 to 28 (by February 28, 2011).
        Competitors may participate in the Competition rounds either in couples or as soloists (for groups
‘Junior’ and ‘Senior’), and only as soloists (for group ‘Petit Serge Lifar’).
        The Competition is open for dancers who have received medals and diplomas at international ballet
competitions and also at The Serge Lifar International Ballet Competitions, except for those who are the
winners of a gold medal (first prize) or the Grand Prix at The Serge Lifar International Ballet Competitions.
        1.2. For participating in the competition it is necessary to be registered on the website of the
Competition Organizer: lifarcomp.com.ua The deadline for applications is March 1, 2011.
        The following package of documents should be completed and sent both by e-mail:
info@lifarcomp.com.ua and by ordinary mail (by a registered letter) to the following postal address of the
Competition Committee(given below)
        a) Application for participation (after enclosed form) should be completed and be sent to the e-mail
on the site and also be printed and posted by a registered letter.
        b) Scanned copies of participators’ passport with given name, surname and middle name or
certificate of birth should be sent to the e-mail on the site and copies be also posted by a registered letter.
        c) Scanned copy of certificate about choreographic education and a student card (for students and
pupils) should be sent to the e-mail on the site and be posted by a registered letter.
        d) Participator’s Creative Resume is completed on the site; its photocopy should be posted by a
registered letter.

       e) An application form with an own participator’s programmer (the sample is attached) is to be
completed on the site; its photocopy should be sent to the postal address.
       f) Three photos on a glossy paper suitable for print (two photos – head-shot, size 4x6cm and one
photo in full length in a stage ballet costume, size 9x12cm) should be posted by a registered letter in the
package of the documents and their scanned copies should be sent to the e-mail on the site.
       1.3. The date of the electronic sending is fixed on the site and the postal mail is determined by the
sender’s first postmark.
       1.4. Signed participator’s application form is a certificate about an agreement in the
participation with all conditions of the competition.

        1.5. Uncompleted documents are not taken into consideration.
        1.6. Organization Committee informs each candidate about the future participation in the
competition by an e-mail and sends a written invitation.
        1.7.Competition participators, their concertmasters and turn performers stay on the
competition in terms mentioned by Organizational Committee in the                  invitation. Foreign
participators if necessary get a visa in Embassy of Ukraine in their countries after confirmation of
status of a competition participator with presentation of the official invitation.
        1.8.After participators registration and sortition changes are possible in the competition
program as an exception to according with the consent of jury.

2. HOLDING PROCEDURE OF THE COMPETITION.
        2.1.In the nomination “Junior” and Senior” take part soloists and couples, in the nomination
“Petit Serge Lifar” only take part soloists. The each artist will be estimated individually regardless he
or she performs solo or duet. The participators should perform with their participator joint partners
who not take part in the competition.
        2.2.Competition performances are held before the audience in three rounds:
 Selective round , Semifinal round and Final round.(for age groups “Junior” and “Senior “
accompaniment by orchestra). Selection round is a lesson of choreography for age group “Petit Serge
Lifar “but Final round will be held accompaniment by phonogram or concertmasters.
        2.3.The procedure of the performances in the competition is stated by sortition for each age
group before the first round and is kept to the end of the competition. Order of duet performances is
determined by girl-partner. The procedure of performances of age groups is stated by jury and
Organization Committee of competition after the end of registration the participators .
        2.4. Jury has the right to select on the 2nd round not more than two thirds of the
participators of the 1st round that gained the most points. Not more than twelve performers will be
allowed to the 3rd round in each age group.
        2.5.Avolution of the performances of the participators on two rounds is done by secret
voting with 12-points evaluation system.

        The final distribution of places and awards of prices will be done according to the results
of the 2nd and 3rd rounds .
   Jury has right:
  -to award not all prizes;
  -to divide prizes between performers (apart of Grand-prix and Special prize of jury named after
founder of International Ballet Contest named after Serge Lifar of Honored Chorographical Art
Worker Yuriy Stanishevsky;
  -to award recipient of a prize who didn’t get title of laureate;
  -to award participators special prizes.
  Decisions of jury are final and can not be reviewed.
        2.6. Jury of the competition has right to come to decision about reduction of the programmer of
stopping performance which exceeds time limit.
        2.7. If one participator doesn’t proceed to the 2nd or the 3rd round he or she is obliged to stay fill the
end to the competition on a cost-free basis to perform as a participator joint partner following rounds,
festive closure (including closing concert) and also concert given by laureates and recipients of a prize.
        2.8. A cost-free participation, is obligatory for all laureates and recipients of a prize and also their
participator joint partners and concertmasters into the festival closures are dedicated closing ceremony
according to the programmer is confirmed by jury and Organizational Committee of the competition.
        2.9. Participators have right to perform with their concertmasters. Transfer and accommodation of
one concertmaster in the competition is on Organizational Committee expense. In case a participator doesn’t
have an own Committee provides him or her with one free. Participators who perform with their
concertmasters are obliged to have all their music material.
        2.10. Participator also has right to use as accompaniment records are on mini disk or CD disk which
are given Organizational Committee in two copies after sortition. There are written clear surname of a
performer, number of performance must be noticed on boxes and CD disks. It is very important of them to
have name of a round on one too. Record has to be recorded on professional record technique. Participators
are obliged to give backing tracks in Organizational Committee for each performance separately.
        2.11. All participators must have their costumes, make up, footwear and another things for
performances. Organizational Committee doesn’t provide participators ones.
        2.12. The Organizing Committee gives to participators of competition rehearsal classes and an an
one rehearsal before each round on a scene where will take place competition.
        2.13. The Organizing Committee reserves the exclusive right to itself for broadcasting of all rounds,
also festive closure (including closing concert) on television, filming, recording on CD disks and further
spreading without paying fee to competition participators, their concertmasters and turn performers. The
Organizing Committee also has the exclusive right to contract with other sides about the rights on selling
mentioned above all competition materials.
       Videotaping, filming or taking photography by other organizations or persons including participators
is possible with a special written permission of the Organizing Committee.
        2.14. Participators can be photographed and be interviewed by only accredited representatives of
press, television, film and radio companies in the competition. The Organization Committee has the right to
accredit.


3. FINANCIAL TERMS.
       3.1. An affiliation fee (is a hryvnya equivalent in a day rate of exchange National Bank of Ukraine)
             by cash in arrival way in the competition:
       for participators which take part in age group "Petit Serge Lifar" - 20 US dollars;
       for participators which take part in age group "Junior" -30 US dollars;
       for participators which take part in age group "Senior" - 50 US dollars.
       Participators pay for an affiliation fee in hryvnyas equivalent in a day rate of exchange National Bank
of Ukraine.
       3.2. In case of refusal of a candidate from participating in the competition documents and affiliation

fee can not be returned.
         3.3. All expenses related to transfer of the participators and their partners to Donetsk in the
competition and in return direction due to participants or their sponsors.
         An Organizing Committee provides accommodation and two times meal during the first round
to all participants of the competition, and also their partners and concertmasters. An Organizing
Committee provides accommodation and two times meal to the participants of competition (to their
partners and concertmasters) who passed on the second and third rounds.
         3.4. Participants which arrive in the competition and give up appearance, and also participants which
do not pass in the second or third rounds (and also their partners and concertmasters) can remain to the end
of competition at an own expense.
         3.5. An Organizational Committee does not provide the participants of competition of artists of
 ballet, their partners and concertmasters, and also accompanying persons by any types of insurance.

                      TERMS OF COMPETITION OF CHOREOGRAPHERS
4. ORDER OF HANDING IN APPLICATIONS HOLDING COMPETITION.
         4.1. Professional choreographers are assumed from Ukraine and foreign states for participating in the
 competition.
         4.2.    Laureates and recipients of international competitions of choreographers including the
International competition of ballet the name of S. Lifar, except for recipient of an award Grand Prix or by
the first bonus on this competition have a right to participate.
        4.3. For participating in the Competition it is necessary to be registered on the site of the
Competition Organizer: lifarcomp.com.ua The deadline for applications is March 1, 2011.

       4.6 Uncompleted documents are not taken into consideration.
       4.7 The Organizing Committee informs each candidate about the decision about participation in the
competition in electronic way (printed out from the official Internet site of the competition) and in written
form.
       4.8 Competitive examinations of choreographers consist of two rounds and are held in public.
       4.9 Terms mentioned in points 2.8, 2.9, 2.10, 2.11, 2.12, 2.13, 2.14 of the section “Terms of ballet
dancers competition” remain in effect and for the section “Terms of choreographers competition”.
       4.10 The jury of competition has the right to come to a decision about the reduction of the
programmer or stopping performance that exceeds time limit.
       4.11 Assessment of performance of competition participators during the first round is done by secret
voting with 12-point evaluation system.
       4.12 To the second round not more than 6 participators are allowed that gained the biggest amount of
points.
       4.13 The final allocation of places and prizes will be done in consideration of results gained in the
first and the second rounds.
       4.14 Decision made by Jury is final and not revised.

5   FINANCIAL TERMS
       5.1 Competition participators, their concertmasters and turn performers stay on the competition in
terms mentioned by the Organizing Committee in invitation. Foreign participators if necessary get a visa in
the Embassy of Ukraine in their own country after confirmation of the status of competition participator
with presentation of official invitation.
       5.2. Entrance fee in amount of 50 US dollars (equivalent in hryvnias according to the exchange rate
of National Bank of Ukraine) is paid in cash during the registration of participators arrived to the
competition.
       5.3. In case of participator’s refusal of participation in the competition documents and entrance fee
are not returned.
       5.4. All expenses related to transfer of competition participators and turn performers of
choreographers contest to Donetsk and return direction due to of participators or their sponsors.
       The Organizing Committee provides accommodation and two times meal to all participators
and turn performers of choreographers contest during the first round. The Organizing Committee
provides accommodation and two times meal to participators and turn performers of choreographers
contest who passed the second round.
       5.5. Participators of choreographers’ contest who arrived to the contest and refused to perform may
stay till the end of the contest at their own expenses.
       5.6. The Organizing Committee does not provide participators of choreographers contest, turn
performers, concertmasters and accompanied with any sorts of insurance.
       5.7. The Organizing Committee reserves for itself the exclusive right to broadcasting all rounds, also
festive closure (including closing concert) on television, to filming, to recording on videotape and further
extension without paying fee to competition participators, their concertmasters and turn performers. The
Organizing Committee also has the exclusive right to contract to other sides above mentioned materials of
the competition.
       Videotaping, filming or taking photography by other organizations or persons including participators
is possible with a special written permission of the Organizing Committee.
       5.8. Participators are allowed to give an interview and to be photographed only to accredited
representatives of press, television companies, film companies and radio companies on this contest. The
Organization Committee has the right to accredit.

                                            PRIZE AND REWARD
      Bonus fund of the VIIth International Ballet Competition named after Serge Lifar is 110 thousand US
dollars. The Organizing Committee establishes following prizes and rewards for winners:
     Serge Lifar Grand prix – 20 thousand US dollars and the title of laureate.
     Special prize of jury named after founder of International Ballet Competition named after Serge Lifar
of Honored Choreography Art Worker Yuriy Stanіshevsky – 5 thousand US dollars and the title of laureate.

     Four diplomas awarding the title of recipient of a prize and stimulating prize of 500 US dollars (each).

     First Prize – 10 thousand US dollars, a golden medal and the title of laureate.
     Second Prize – 5 thousand US dollars, a silver medal and the title of laureate.
     Third Prize – 3 thousand US dollars, a bronze medal and the title of laureate.

     First Prize – 10 thousand US dollars, a golden medal and the title of laureate.
     Second Prize – 5 thousand US dollars, a silver medal and the title of laureate.
     Third Prize – 3 thousand US dollars, a bronze medal and the title of laureate.
      Four diplomas awarding the title of recipient of a prize and stimulating prize of 1 thousand US dollars
(each).
      CHOREOGRAPHERS
      First Prize named after Sergey Prokofiev – 10 thousand US dollars, a golden medal and the title of
laureate.
      Second Prize – 5 thousand US dollars, a silver medal and the title of laureate.
      Third Prize –3 thousand US dollars, a bronze medal and the title of laureate.
      Two diplomas awarding the title of recipient of a prize and stimulating prize of 1,5 thousand US
dollars (each).
      Subject to achieved by competitors results and within a state amount of prizes jury has the right to:
     - award not all prizes;

      All prizes are paid off in national currency on the current handing in a day rate of exchange of
National Bank of Ukraine. The Organizing Committee, jury, state, social and other facilities, also sponsors
have the right to establish special prizes and awards to competition participators, best concertmasters,
conductors, private tutors, teachers, participator joint partners, turn performers and choreographers.
Awarding of all prizes is coordinated with the Organizing Committee.
      In case of appearing discrepancy at interpretation of above mentioned terms of competition
juridically unassailable text is considered Ukrainian variant.

                                             PROGRAMMER
                                       BALLET DANCERS
                                          First round (selective)
        In the age group “Petit Serge Lifar” the selective round is a lesson in the choreographic room. All
participants of the age groups “Junior” and “Senior” perform one variation from the ballet of the classic
repertoire of XIX – XX centuries in the version of choreographer (whose surname shall be indicated in the
programmer declared by the participant).
                                           Second round (semifinal)
    1. Classic choreography:
       Soloist of the age group “Petit Serge Lifar” perform one variation from the ballet of classic
repertoire of XIX – XX centuries in the version of any choreographer, or the variation set on of music of
the composers of the classic ballet in the teacher’s setting.
       Duets of age groups “Juior” and “Senior” perform one pa-de-de (adagio variation coda);
       Soloist of the age groups “Junior” and “Senior” perform one variation from the ballet of classic
repertoire of XIX – XX centuries in the version of any choreographer (whose surname shall be indicated in
the programmer declared by the participant).
    2. Modern choreography:
       All age groups perform one work of a modern choreographer (the duration of the performance
shouldn’t be more than 7 minutes). Desirable to use Sergey Prokofiev’s music.
                                            Third round (final)
                        in the accompaniment of the age groups “Junior” and “Senior”
      Duets and Soloist of the age groups “Junior” and “Senior” perform one pa-de-de or two
choreographers’ variations of XIX – XX centuries according to the proposed repertoire (attachment).
                                           Third round (final)
                      with the sound recording for the age group “Petit Serge Lifar”
      Soloist of the age group “Petit Serge Lifar” perform two variations from the ballet classic repertoire
of XIX – XX centuries in the version of any choreographer (whose surname shall be indicated in the
programmer declared by the participant).
      The works performed in the second round can’t be shown in the final.



                                       CHOREOGRAPHERS
                                                First round
         Performance of the fragment from the original versions of the ballets or the original dance miniature
set in the music of Sergey Prokofiev.
         The duration of the performance – no more than 10 minutes. The number of participants – shouldn’t
be more than 10 dancers.
                                              Second round
       Original number of the programmer in any choreographic style, set in any musical work, it’s
advisable to be the Ukrainian composer’s music.
       The duration of the performance – no more than 5 minutes. The number of participants shouldn’t be
more than 8 dancers.

        According to the clause 4.10 of the terms of this contest the jury is responsible for the timekeeping
of the numbers and can stop the performance that goes beyond the time limit.
