Tetrathlon 2012 – Northam
Event General Information
The Tetrathlon provides Pony Club with a challenging competition for members, combining sound practical
horsemanship with other athletic events. The objective is to encourage all round sporting activity, including
horse riding.
This event is based on the Olympic Pentathlon and includes the following four phases, Running, Shooting,
Swimming and Cross Country.
The Tetrathlon will be based at the Avon Valley Showjumping and Pony Club grounds at Equestrian Park
located on Suburban Road Northam on the 31st March and 1st of April 2012. The running and cross country
phase will be held on these grounds. The swimming phase will be held at Northam Swimming Pool on
Mitchell Avenue. The Shooting phase will be located at the Northam Gun Club located approximately 2kms
from Equestrian Park behind the Netball Courts on Suburban Road.
Avon Valley Showjumping and Pony Club is located in Northam. Northam is located 100 kms east of Perth.
Avon Valley SJ&PC is primarily known in “Pony Club circles” for its Tetrathalon which it has successfully
hosted during 2008 and 2009 as well as its keen interest and participation in all Pony Club disciplines. In
2009 and 2010 their Junior PPMG team won the State Championships at Beverley. In 2011 both their Junior
and Senior PPMG teams won the State Championships at the Perth Royal Show.
This is the third of a three year tenure that Avon Valley SJ & PC are hosting the “State Tetrathlon
Championship weekend” to show that small, enthusiastic clubs can run events successfully. We have a
membership of 50 riders who along with their parents will ensure you all have a fun and successful
weekend. The State Championship Tetrathlon held in Northam in 2010 and 2011 attracted record numbers
of entries and despite the very hot weather was a huge success.
An evening meal will be organised for the Saturday night at a cost of $15 per person consisting of a main
buffet style meal and dessert. For those arriving on the Friday night, there are eating places located in
Northam consisting of a Chinese restaurant, 2 Pizza shops and 2 Chicken shops and a MacDonalds. For
other places please go to the link http://www.visitnorthamwa.com.au/
There will be plenty of camping areas available including an area located between the Equestrian Park Cross
Country Course and the Bert Hawke Cricket Oval. Please note that this area is approximately 1km from the
AVSJ&PC club house well within walking distance. Visitors camping in this area must be aware that AT
NO TIME MUST ANY HORSES OR PONIES BE RIDDEN ON THE BERT HAWKE OVAL AS THE
CRICKET FINALS ARE BEING PLAYED ON THIS OVAL DURING THIS AND THE FOLLOWING
WEEKENDS.
No visitors will be permitted to plug into any power points at either of the camping sites.
For those who don’t want to camp, there are several Bed and Breakfast facilities as well as a motel and other
accommodation options. For a detailed list of available accommodation please go to
http://www.visitnorthamwa.com.au/
Horse Feed – Horse feed is available from Avon Valley Garden and Stock Feed or Northam Feed and Hire,
both located in Old York Rd, Northam.
