JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Trainee General Adviser
RESPONSIBLE TO: Deputy Manager
PLACE OF WORK: Liverpool Central CAB
SALARY: £16,536 per annum (pay award pending)
HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week
CONTRACT: 12 month Fixed Term Contract
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
To work as part of the General Advice Unit to provide advice, information and
support to clients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
CASE WORK
To provide a service of advice and information to clients.
To manage and prioritise own caseload
To maintain organised and detailed case notes and supporting
documentation
To research information using a variety of sources.
To assist clients in a practical way (eg. telephoning, writing letters,
completing forms, negotiating with 3rd parties and calculating benefits)
GENERAL
To contribute to effective service provision as part of the wider bureau
team
To undertake Social Policy work, helping to influence government and
services by collecting information on client’s experiences.
To attend team meetings when required
To demonstrate a commitment to the aims, principles and policies of the
CAB service and the implementation of it’s Equal Opportunities policies
To undertake other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the post
and as required by the Manager

TRAINEE GENERAL ADVISER
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Whilst full training will be given, it is expected that the successful candidate
will have some recent experience of general advice work (ideally of at least 3
– 6 months).
The ability to write clear and accurate case records utilising electronic case
management software
Ability to undertake basic calculations
The ability to research information items and explain these to clients.
Good communication skills
The ability to write clear and accurate case records
The ability to manage own caseload
Ability to ensure compliance with Citizens Advice, Quality of Advice
Standards.
The ability and commitment required to be an effective team member
An understanding of the importance of undertaking social policy work
within the bureau
An understanding of and commitment to the active promotion of equal
opportunities and anti-discrimination
An understanding of and a commitment to the aims and principles of the
CAB service, namely confidentiality, impartiality, independence and the
provision of a free service
An understanding of and sympathy with people together with a non-
judgemental attitude
