Application for the WEDC John Pickford Scholarship 2011-12
Please type or complete in BLACK INK using BLOCK CAPITALS and return to the address above.
This application form is for the WEDC John Pickford Scholarship. This scholarship will cover 100% of the course fees for your
chosen MSc taught programme (either Water and Waste Engineering or Water and Environmental Management) managed by
the Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) for one year (replacing any Departmental or Loughborough
University scholarships or bursaries you may already have been awarded). The Scholarship is being funded through donations
given in memory of the late Professor John Pickford (the founder of WEDC). The University will award one scholarship during
2011-12, and the standards required are very high.
For entry in 2011 the scholarship application procedure is an open competition. Students may only apply for the scholarship
after an unconditional offer for a place has been made. Students who are in possession of an unconditional offer of a place on
a MSc taught programme (either Water and Waste Engineering or Water and Environmental Management) can apply for the
scholarship using this application form. Priority will be given to applicants having a minimum of two years’ experience of work
in the development or relief sector, and who are nationals of a country classified as ‘low-income’ or ‘lower-middle-income’ by
The World Bank (see Annex A for lists of qualifying countries).
The selection panel will be looking for the very highest academic achievers, and those who will contribute most to development
in their country when they return home after their course. The panel will also be looking for those who clearly demonstrate a
full understanding of the costs involved in coming to the UK and can demonstrate that they have strong motivation and the
initiative to be able to secure funds to cover the remainder of the costs involved.
You are advised to spend considerable effort ensuring that this application reaches the selectors in a form that is clear, well
presented and which reflects your abilities and motivation.
Completed signed applications MUST be received by Friday 1st July 2011 to the address shown
above. Forms received after this date will not be considered.
