                          Community Service Initiative Project
                                       2006-2007

                                        Basic Requirements


1st Nine Weeks:            No attendance at City Council or School Board Meetings
                           Project research and proposal due

2nd Nine Weeks:            1 City Council meeting with Government Teacher
                           1 School Board meeting with Government Teacher
                           Project Documentation and Action Plan due

3rd Nine Weeks:            1 City Council or School Board meeting with Teacher
                           A minimum of 6 hours completed on Project

4th Nine Weeks:            1 City Councilor School Board meeting with Teacher

                           A minimum of 6 hours completed (total of 12 hours for the
                           year) on Project



City Council Meetings:

      1) Location: City Hall downtown, on the east end of the mall.
      2) When:     The first and third Monday of the month at 7:00 in City Hall.

School Board Meetings:

      1) Location: CHS Media Center, on the right side.
      2) When:     The first and third Thursday of the month at 7:00.
                            Community Service Initiative Project Proposal
Due Date:      Your proposal will be due no later than 6:00 on October 19/20, 2006.

                       i. If you are in an even class: due October 20, 2006 by 6:00.
                      ii. If you are in an odd class: due October 19, 2006 by 6:00.

Format:        This paper should be completed in a traditional essay format. See
               http://www.write-an-essay.com/ if you have any questions about the format. This paper
               should be completed in Times New Roman font, 12-point size and 1-inch margins.

               You must site your sources in this paper. See this website for questions about plagiarism.

               You may use additional sources, but you must site them in a bibliography. You must also
               site all other facts that you use in this paper. If you have any questions, please ask me.

Requirements:
                       1) Name, Date, Class Period
                       2) Location you wish to volunteer.
                       3) Their Address, Phone number and contact person if possible.
                       4) Explain what the organization does. What is its mission? If you are not
                          volunteering at a particular place, tell me what you will be doing. This must be
                          specific.
                       5) Tell me why you want to volunteer at this particular place.
                       6) Why it is important to volunteer. What benefits can you get out of volunteering?
                          How can you help society by volunteering?


               You may design this proposal in any way you wish, but it must include everything
       mentioned above (1-6). The more time and effort you put into this part of the project, the less you
       will have to put in on the next. This is only a written proposal and you do not need to complete any
       volunteer hours.

               Your grade on this proposal will be based on the quality of the work you submit.
