Geocoding Specifications
This form is only to be used if you are providing the Data Linkage Branch with a list of
addresses to geocode. If you need other variables in addition to the geocoded information,
you should also fill out a data extraction form. Data Linkage Branch can only geocode
addresses of places in WA.
Geocoding involves assigning a map reference point (a combination of latitude and
longitude), collector’s district and statistical local area to an address. It is used for analyses
that connect these places to other geographic data, such as land use, neighbourhood
facilities or information from the ABS Census data.
Dataset information
The addresses in your dataset should be separated into the following fields:
- Alias or building name - Street type (e.g. road)
- Unit number - Suburb
- Street number - State
- Street name - Postcode
