Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability Encourages Statistics Canada to gather
information on Canadians with disability
In the 2006 census, Statistics Canada chose not to gather information on disability and physical activity.
With health care becoming more and more of a political, economic and social issue it would seem an
opportunity was missed to learn more about a population that relies heavily on our medical system.
Without this information health care professionals and politicians will lack the knowledge needed to
make informed decisions about our health system.
The ALA would take this moment to suggest stats Canada perform another survey similar to the
Participation and Activity Limitation Survey of 2001. As the Canadian population is continually
evolving up to date information is required.
