OVERVIEW/ANNOTATION
In this lesson, students will create basic spreadsheets and charts using Microsoft Excel.

BACKGROUND/PREPARATION
Prior to covering the content standards for this lesson, students will be evaluated on their level of
knowledge related to the use of personal computers and Windows Vista operating system. Peer tutors
will be used for support.

PROCEDURES/ACTIVITIES
    1. Teacher will introduce spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel; discuss how and why spreadsheets are
       used (frequently making clear the fact that many professions use spreadsheets, no matter the
       nature of the work)
    2. Teacher and students will point out the basic differences between Excel 2010 and older
       versions and explain that the textbook demonstrations may slightly differ due to software
       version differences
    3. Teacher and students will discuss the objectives of the chapter
    4. Teacher and students will discuss key concepts of the chapter using the Cornell notes and/or
       Screen Elements handouts
    5. Teacher and students will complete the step-by-step project for the chapter, pausing to re-visit
       key concepts
    6. Upon completion of the step-by-step project with the teacher, students will independently
       complete reinforcement projects; teacher will monitor and support students as they work
    7. Students will submit select projects to be graded (selected by the teacher)
    8. Teacher and students will review key concepts and features
    9. Students will be assessed on key concepts and features using Quia.com
